Let's hear it. What's the good and the bad? I'll admit I'm tempted to get this game after hearing/seeing some things this weekend.

I like it.

Some people will take issue with my opinion that it's a generic fantasy mmo, but it's true. It's just a well executed generic fantasy mmo. I like that when you switch weapons, you switch playstyles, no matter what class.

I like that cities are scaled properly (wrt physical size) - the world graphics are pretty stunning.

Things I don't like... not much yet, but it's early.

It's a very fun game. It can difficult to group up and do general adventuring from what I heard in guild chatter. My playtimes were too sporadic to try to group up.

Grouping with overflow is pretty terrible. If you want to group, go to a city, group up, and leave together.

Why group? You walk up to an encounter and there are people there to help.
Everyone can rezz each other, I like that you don't just die, but can buy time fighting or crying for help.
The abilities are simplified to 3 main, 2 off hand, and 4-5 additional.

In the midget race area, there is a boss mob fire elemental.
He 1 shots you, there is a small bridge into the room, it took several hours the first time.
The subsequent times went much faster, and you get like 6 drops off the invisible chest.
It was actually fun, running in, trying to rezz folks, reminded me of old EQ hate raids.

This game has real potential for fun.

I've only gotten an elementalist to lvl 20, and then decided to play an engineer, so I don't know how the mid or end game looks.

Why group? So I can play directly with my wife/friends/people from work, etc.

aaaand people are already trying to phish gw2 accounts.

I've had two "someone tried to reset your guild wars 2 password" emails since midnight last night.

So, thing I don't like: no two factor authentication at launch.

To be quite honest, two factor is only a patch applied to human stupidity.

I did use my "spam" email account for gw2, which I have since rectified.

How does it compare with Guild Wars 1? I know that game held my interest for about 2 hours. Is it just a completely fresh and redone experience or did they import a lot of the stuff from that game?

Lemme help you feel better, then. The odds are very low that either one of those e-mails was provoked by an attempt to hack your account. The e-mails themselves are attempts to hack your account, and represent the average sophistication of those attempts.

The emails themselves originated from ArenaNet servers, with valid SPF records and DomainKey signatures. Backtracing email is something I can do in my sleep at this point.

The mistake I made was in using my Yahoo mail account for registration, which had been part of the July compromise, but I rectified that mistake yesterday.

Yes, I got some of those myself. I'd be worried about it if I actually had a GuildWars 2 account, or even a GuildWars 1 account -- but since I don't have one of those, I'm going to go on guessing that they're random shots in the dark rather than evidence of successful penetration. Kay?
:D

You got emails signed by ArenaNet asking you to reset the password for a non-existant ArenaNet account?

Dubious.

And by signed I mean in the cryptographic sense.

Also in the "originated from their servers" sense.

REALLY liking this game.

Just roam around the large map collecting markers and experience, and walk into events as they happen.
Also discovered at lvl 24, when you go to another race lvl 1-15 area, you get down-leveled to match the area, and the experience is GREAT.

Just wish warriors had a double bladed greataxe. Doing greatsword and gun for events. By the time I can run up to a mob, it's dead, and bosses do really nasty things if you're close, so I usually use the gun for ranged, and help revive people.
