Once-dreaded World of Warcraft raid boss Onyxia will return in revamped form as part of celebrations for the MMORPG's upcoming fifth anniversary, Blizzard has revealed.

Having lain near-dormant since WoW's two expansions made it a cakewalk, Onyxia's dungeon will be permanently converted to a 10-player normal raid and 25-player Heroic, scaled up and revamped to present a challenge to today's tricked-out level 80 heroes.

"We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding," says Blizzard, "but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again."

New items will be added using the same models as vintage Onyxia loot for that classic 2005 look, as well as a 310% speed Onyxia Broodling flying mount.

As a bonus, all players who login during "a limited time" after the anniversary event begins in November will receive a special Onyxia Brood Whelping pet.

You could draw the line at vanity pets as carrots, or you could draw the line at the player-hostile attitude of the lead developer. They hold you in contempt

I'm actually happy about this one.

It's not on the same level as Naxx being a recycled dungeon and being the ONLY large raid instance at the release of an expansion. That was ass.

I'm just looking at this one as a bonus, and a welcome return of a boss that I liked.

PS: A lot of people like pets and mounts. I think it's lame, but eh, a lot of people do like it.

I don't mind pets and mounts, I had plenty of both. But when they are the highlight of any new content, you've got problems.

They weren't the only things they mentioned in this case.

In fact, the pet doesn't even really have anything to do with Onyxia, it's just the anniversary pet like the baby bear from before.

So we're down to the fact that a mount happens to drop from Onyxia. That's hardly "the highlight" of the announcement.

Why stop at Onyxia? Why not the rest of useless vanilla/TBC content that never gets used anymore.

Bov, don't be an ass. Deep breaths are part of the encounter so I don't see why mentioning it would hurt anything. However, the only reason to mention the "log in and get a pet" thing is for that exact reason: people may log in simply because they get a free pet, content be damned. It's a selling point, pure and simple.

The only thing I was going after was the, "omg pets are the highlight of the next patch, clearly everything is dumb." attitude that seemed to be prevalent. Obviously mentioning the pet is a selling point.



They already gank a good amount of their names and little easter eggs/jokes from pop culture references, it's really only a matter of time before "Afflack the Duck" is waddling around the shores of Ashenvale.

I don't know what the big deal about onxy is, its just a small bonus for the 5th year anniversary, and nothing more.

The real shit comes with 3.3.

Btw, the mtn dew was lame, but I did get the robo pet, but that fruity flavored orange dew is not fit for anyone to drink.

Does 3.3 finally bring in the Chinpokemon Master class complete with furry outfits and interchangeable hats?! WoW can be a fun game, but they're REALLY getting fucking lazy with the content. If you're gonna make retarded easy content at least make enough of it to be interesting.

I thought "the real shit" came with 3.2 and this coliseum ring of blood 3.0 garbage. It was a major content patch, after all.

Maybe they have their interns doing the old content as some sort of training before they step up to the big leagues. You gotta take baby steps if you want to design the next Anub'arak 3.0 encounter.

Eventually, they'll learn to scale the math in the gear and encounters with a modifier, to scale the difficulty and rewards so that they really never need to do anything except minor tweaks.

Oh hey, this raid has an average ilevel of 200... scale the mob abilities based on that, and the drops become Snub-Nose Blastershot Launcher level 4, with slightly more cowbell.

Lets be completely honest here...you're correct, but you also basically described any MMO (and even most RPGs) with any leveling/gearing progression. =(

Anyways, the only gripe people should have is not what is coming out, but rather about fucking accessing the current content.

Happens every major content patch now, and most minor content patches.

Yeah. It's hard enough finding a tank and healer if no one in guild wants to go....Then you get to the damn instance and have to throw yourselves at it for 30 minutes until the healer gets a better offer and bails on you. Hell I tried to run a friend through Scarlet Monastery and I gave up portal hopping at 40 minutes....she continued for another 25 minutes before logging.

It's not like you can go mine anything with the fucking bots and hackers in every zone stealing every ounce of ore.

It's not like you can go do WG now with the bullshit queue system. I've been tossed from 4 in a row now because I wasn't one of the group chosen to be let in.
