So I went to the quaint old Library the other day and checked out some audiobooks.. I have 2 hours of commuting round-trip every day and just started to get into them. Anyways, I decided to give Eye of the World another go (it's like 35 frickin discs), it's been a while since I've re-read it. It got me thinking...

First, exactly how the new author is going to end the novel (based on Jordan's notes and written work). There's so many directions he could go with it. For some reason, my main curiosity concerns exactly what role Logain will play. The prophecies that Min sees has made me think, off and on, that he's really the Dragon Reborn and Jordan had always intended to pull a switcheroo at the end. Probably crazy, but it would be interesting to say the least.

Second... why in the world hasn't someone done more with this world Jordan's created? It's interesting and much different than standard "elves, dwarves, wizards and dragons" fare that has gotten really old for me. It's fleshed out enough through the first dozen books to make a solid foundation and I think it could be a huge franchise. I mean.. you could do something completely unrelated to the main plotline, like pre- or post- conclusion, or take one of the secondary characters like.. Lan.. and show his childhood.

The books really started to suck, but I've got so much invested I want to see the end, and the world still interests me. The last book was actually not bad and it gave me some small hope for a good ending.

My guess is it ends with a baby being born on Dragonmount... again... so the Wheel of Time can turn again.

ps: I personally love the series, crappy middle books and all.

brandon sanderson is an awesome author, his books so far have been promising and i'm looking forward to him putting an end to jordan's previous blue-ball'esque series.

I stopped reading after Path of Daggers. I'll pick it up again and re-read the whole series after the last one is published.

I read the first four or five of these a number of years ago. I always enjoyed them, but I got to the point where I knew the series wasn't really going anywhere and was unlikely to ever be finished. I do totally agree w/ Jox on the world, though. The first book just dragged me in and the world was fascinating in its depth and complexity, and how different it was from standard Swords & Sorcery fare.

The only other modern series I've read that has pulled me in so quickly and completely is Martin's Songs of Fire and Ice. And those may well end up with the same unfinished fate.

Apparently the last book is really going to be 3 books, as apparently there was so much to tie up, the series couldn't be finished in less than 750,000 words. The first book will be out November 3rd, 2009. I'm a huge fan of the series and have read all the books at least 4 times and hope that Sanderson, along with Jordan's wife editing (as she did with the series) will bring a satisfying conclusion to the series.

I hope it turns around though, I loved the early books so much, I really want to be into it for the ending again. Maybe a good ending would even spur more work with the whole world to boot.

There is a prequel called New Spring. Which kinda pissed me off. I started reading these books like 10 years ago.

One of the best of the entire series. I have high hopes for the last book.
