OK, I know some of us have disagreed on whether it's possible to earn $40k or $30k or what a teacher is worth. Let's put that aside.
Can we agree that this guy is a complete <insert insult here>?
http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=7111098&page=1Story is about a guy who made $750k and eventually had to take a job delivering pizzas.
Some may read this as: "ah see, the economy is so bad."
I read it as: this is exactly what I'm talking about. HOW can you spin this as a sob story? Guy makes $100k at a minimum for 20+ years, eventually climbing to $750k. Now, they have the nerve to run a sob story about how their "dream home" is in foreclosure and they are $100k+ in debt.
Give me a break. How could anybody have the least bit of sympathy for this person? The guy is in a giant house with a pool - and they are spinning it like "oh man times are tough". Are you kidding me?
Here is the way I look at it:
Anyone making $100k+ a year for more than 20 years should be in pretty sound financial condition. Think about it, if you're reasonably responsible, you should have at a minimum $1 million+ in savings. While that's not enough to live in the lap of luxury, it certainly would allow you to "make ends meet" for a few years while you pick up some other type of work. This guy was making $750k at one point. How could anyone make that much money and not be completely set for life?
And here is the other aspect - if someone has the skills to earn $750k, how can you possibly not find any other line of work that pays anything? If your skillset is so incredibly limited, how on god's earth were you EVER worth $750k a year? Rule of thumb - if you are in a job where you could not replace the job with 70% or more of your current salary - you should be seeking part-time education to safeguard your salary.
OK - end of rant. I'm dying to hear someone defend this dude.
