I seriously feel bad for this guy. I mean, he is a first class d-bag, but to have your d-bagness paraded around all over the country... Ouch.

Apparently the guy doesn't like socialist Obama and when he went to the rally to be snarky, he probably never imagined his life would be put under the microscope like it has.

I don't know what is true and what isn't, but I have heard things like:

He beat his x-wife: http://apps.co.lucas.oh.us/onlinedocket ... 00&PARTY=0

He doesn't have a license to be a plumber
He doesn't make 250k
The business he is in has 2 employees, him and his boss
The company doesn't make 250k so he wouldn't be taxed like he said he would
He owes taxes

Anyhoo, like I said, I dunno if that shit is true or not, don't really care enough to find out, but MAN - can you imagine?

You go out one day with the intention of just being an asshole to a presidential candidate, then your entire life is splayed out for national scrutiny. Ouch.

Poor dude.

And there is some rumors now that he's closely related to Robert Wurzelbacher who is the son-in-law of Charles Keating. (http://www.eisenstadtgroup.com/2008/10/ ... ting-oops/)

Martin Eisenstadt is GOP and a McCain supporter. Take it for what it's worth.

Isn't it a bit despicable that the press has "investigated" the guy?

I mean, daily kos published his address. What's up with that?

How was he an asshole to Obama?

He wasn't. I thought the little question/answer was pretty good. His turning around and talking shit with the media afterwards didn't sit well with people.

And yes, DailyKOS is pretty much a douche central. (Though is his address displayed on his website? Dunno.)

Well, in his interviews, it is pretty clear to me that his entire intention with Obama was to make up a fictitious circumstance (him buying this "plumbing company") and then say that he was going to get screwed by Obama's tax plan - even though anybody with a pulse at this point should know about Obama's 250k cut off.

The more this guy talks, the more apparent that he was never leaning Obama in the first place. It would be like me showing up at a McCain rally with some fictitious life-circumstance where his healthcare tax was going to put me in the poor house, and then having Obama exploit it in a debate.

That's all. I could be mis-reading the guy, but all his comments in his interviews make me believe he only had one goal at an Obama rally, and that was to deliver a snarky comment.

Agreed. I tend to think that walking up to someone and lying to them in an attempt to smear them publicly is "being an asshole". Perhaps Joxur has a different idea of what being an asshole might be.

Here are a couple of snippets of Joe The Plumber:
Quote:
– “Social Security’s a joke. I have parents. I don’t need another set of parents called the government. Let me take my money and invest it how I please. Social Security, I’ve never believed in, don’t like it, hate that it’s forced on me.”

– “I’m not sorry that we’re in Iraq. … We’ve liberated another country. I mean, you know, freedom. … I don’t know if you guys are Christians or not, but it’s like someone coming to Jesus and becoming saved. These guys have freedom. … Has it kept us safe? Absolutely. I believe in that 100 percent.”

Sounds like somebody that would be interested in Obama doesn't it?

Apparently this guy had been running the right wing radio racket. He invited this on himself, and by all accounts seems to be enjoying it. If you're upset about it, then point your finger at Senator McCain, because he made it inevitable.

If not for supporters like you, Obama would have locked this up a lot earlier.

You really think that destroying Joe the plumber benefits Obama? You think investigative news reports and publishing his address helps with swing voters? Really?

I also don't see where I say Joe should be destroyed. Joe the plumber has invited this publicity, and from the interviews I've seen, seems to be enjoying it.

I don't agree that speaking out against policies you don't like invites this on yourself. He's not running for office, he's not a public figure. You may think that anyone who voluntarily puts themselves in the spotlight invites scrutiny, but I don't agree, especially not in a Democracy during an election.

Thank you for actually responding to my point. Yes, this is what I'm saying. This guy injected himself into the race, went around on radio, doing interviews, making certain claims, followed by being the centerpiece of the final debate. In our world, it would be silly not to expect what came next.

Part of fact checking the final debate is fact checking McCain's claims about Mr. Joe the Plumber. That's just how things work Joxur, and I know I don't need to tell you that.

Surcam, I think it's fairly clear that we are reading far too much into this issue. I mean, it's obvious that this man's testimony would be important, so I'm sure that these questionable aspects have already been vetted out. Just like Palin!

Ok then Surcam, let's have a real debate about this.

Where do you think the line is?

- Is it publishing his personal address? His ex-wife's?
- Digging up dirt on his divorce?
- Publishing that he has a tax lien against him?

How did you feel about Bristol Palin and Trig Palin coverage?

Joe the Plumber is yet another white trash scumbag trying to take a shit on Obama, and he got called out for it.

I'm glad the media is actually doing their jobs and investigating stories. It's glad that people are taking the story for what it's worth and asking questions. The guy is full of shit. His taxes won't go up. He lied about his business, and he's got a bunch of shady shit going on.

Do you really think that the McCain campaign just figured that the media would take them at their word about Joe the Plumber?

He has thrust himself into the media spotlight and now he is getting the full buttfucking that comes along with it.

I find the name coincidence with the Keating 5 guy interesting.

Always good to read up on history a little bit:

The Swift-Boating of Graeme Frost
http://www.time.com/time/politics/artic ... 10,00.html

I'm sure the 12 year old and his family deserved the buttfucking.

Quote:
Since then, Frost and his family have been introduced firsthand to something else that most kids his age haven't: the reality of how brutal partisan politics can be in the Internet age. It started over the weekend, when a blogger calling himself Icwhatudo put up a post on the conservative website Freerepublic.com noting what he had found by scavenging around the Internet: that Graeme attends a private school, lives in a remodeled house near one that had sold for $485,000 in March and is the child of parents whose wedding was announced in the New York Times. The post also noted that his father purchased a $160,000 commercial space in 1999.
Still waiting on someone to reply to my post about where the line is.

The line is where the guy drew it. If he didn't want his dirty laundry aired, he should have kept his mouth shut and kept to himself. If he had done that, then he could play the martyr, but he didn't, and now he is getting his life put under a microscope.

If you are going to be a loudmouth, blowhard, d-bag in front of the nation, you better have the majority of your ducks in a row.

This guy brought the vast majority of this all on himself. I did feel bad for him, but the fact that he is milking his newfound fame makes me feel just a little "less" bad for him.

Ah, the sign of a Limbaugh fan. Sorry, I might prefer Obama to McCain, but that doesn't mean I think he's the messiah...and I'm sure that goes for most people. But die-hard, can't-understand-others-have-differing-opinions conservatives have to explain it away by saying that we're all blinded by a messianic message. That's bullshit. (And I know there are left-wingers that are just as die-hard *cough*Sky*cough*, but that doesn't mean you have to mimic a sexist blow hard.)

Anyway, I don't think it's either campaign's fault, really, and I don't think it's the media's, either. It's just a rock slide of events.

1. Obama does a typical campaign thing and goes door to door.
2. Joe the plumber is irritated that Obama is there, so he pushes about the tax plan. I could see why he'd do it - if I were a supporter of one candidate and another approached me, I might try to pull on a perceived weak spot, too.
3. McCain's people LOVE the idea that there's a middle-class plumber trying to buy a business who is scared of Obama's tax plan.
4. McCain's peeps say "This is the new 'my friends.' It's the buzz word for the debate! The more times you say his name, the more people will love you!" And, annoyingly enough, Obama bites and says it just as many times. ($1,000 fake money for anyone who can figure out who says it the most times...just out of curiosity!)
5. The media loves it just as much as McCain's peeps. Or maybe his name was mentioned so many times that it hypnotized them. "Must...find...Joe..."
6. Joe gets interviewed several times over. He gets invited to McCain's rally, but he tells the presidential candidate he can't go; he's probably going to be doing interviews for TV stations instead.
7. Editors are screaming to writers "FIND MORE OUT ABOUT JOE! WHAT ARE HIS LIKES? HIS DISLIKES? DOES HE HAVE SKELETONS IN HIS CLOSET? IS HE A HERMAPHRODITE?" (Seriously, though, editors and producers were probably giving out assignments left and right to find out more about Joe. And Joe was eating it up, giving interview after interview, willingly.)
8. It bites him in the ass. Reporters were bound to find out this information.

It's not that anyone was really out to get him (well, I'm sure some were), but they were doing their jobs. And Joe was loving it until they found out he made up his question and he owes back taxes.

*shrugs*

To start with Obama never approached his house... the man approached Obama...

Secondly, his taxes WON'T get raised, and thirdly... the guy is a scumbag anyhow. How does he have a driver's license if it's suspended in AZ? He can't, legally. So, he's a criminal too, unless he never drives which is extremely doubtful seeing as he is a plumber...

Wait, AZ? I have heard that the keating 5 guy with the same last name lives in Milford Ohio (dunno) and someone else said Arizona - are they related or what? Anybody know?

The randomness of the whole thing kinda makes me think he's not a "plant" but jesus fuck what a hell of a coincidence...

He was at the very least deceptive about "having to pay more" under Obama's plan after he bought the business. He said the business makes 250-280k a year, which is a deception because after he bought the business it would be making 150k-200k.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid= ... refer=home

Quote:
It's far more likely that the $280,000 Wurzelbacher told Obama he'd earn would be in the form of gross receipts and not taxable income, said Steven Bankler, a certified public accountant in San Antonio, who counts plumbers and other trade professionals as his clients.

According to an analysis by Dun & Bradstreet on Wurzelbacher's employer, A. W. Newell Corp., the plumbing and heating contractor has annual sales of $510,000.

If Wurzelbacher bought the company, by the time he took proper business deductions, Bankler said, he'd be left with between $150,000 and $200,000 in taxable income and wouldn't be affected by Obama's proposed increase in the top rates.

Joe may have lied and embarrassed himself. OK. But, he should be allowed to enter into the public discourse without having his personal life shreadded.

Of course, there's a point (like with Palin), where becoming a celebrity brings that on. Either way, who cares?

MELBOURNE, Florida (CNN)- At a rally in Melbourne, Florida Friday evening, Senator McCain revealed he had called Joe Wurzelbacher.

“I talked to him this morning for the first time ever,” said McCain. “And I want to tell you his sprits are good and he’s a tough guy. He is what small business people all over this country are all about. They are tough and they are good and they want to get ahead and they want to keep their money.”

McCain did apologize to the Ohio resident for thrusting him into the media spotlight on the night of the debate according to McCain press secretary Brooke Buchanan.

The night before he called, he appealed to Joe on CBS’s “Late Night with David Letterman.”
“Joe, if you’re watching, I’m sorry,” he said into the camera.

Buchanan did say that the Arizona Senator invited Ohio’s most famous voter to meet up with the campaign but did not set up any specific stops.

McCain has a rally in that state on Sunday but Buchanan said she didn’t know whether Murzelbacher would appear.

When asked why he called Joe, Buchanan said, “I think he just wanted to reach out to him.”

Whether Joe is there in person or not, he is certainly a star at McCain events. McCain urged others at the rally to contact Joe and share their support. “Send Joe an email and tell him you are with him, ok,” said McCain.

And the crowd definitely seemed to be full of Joe supporters as well as John supporters, with people at the Melbourne rally were wearing tee shirts with a picture of a name tag on them that said, “My name is … Joe the Plumber” and holding signs about Joe like one on stage that said, “Joe’s dough, not Obama’s.”

So, John, it's been brought to everyone's attention that "Joe" here is a fraud... and you want him along on the Straight Talk Express? Are you John McCain, and do you approve his message? I guess that means you're a fraud too?

Whatever it takes to win.

Obviously, you guys were never mad at Rove and Bush for what they did to win. You were mad that the dems didn't do it first.

You need to give us some context Jox. Unless of course your intent is to spout shit as vaguely as possible so no one can call you on it. In that case, carry on, soldier.

So how are republicans taking the news about Joe the Plumber being a completely unlicensed less-than-250,000 criminal fuck?

Probably think he's a great Republican find for Congress next election.

That all depends on whether he's anti-abortion.

Maybe. The Palin debacle highlighted for me that anything can be sacrificed in the name of their cause.

Hey guys, fresh meat.

I heard a 12 year old girl and her parents were on Hannity because some kids in her school called her racist for supporting John McCain. Release the hounds!

Hey, he'll fit right in with the other deceitful, tax-dodging crooks!

Quote:
Ohio's inspector general is investigating why a state agency director approved checking the state child-support computer system for information on "Joe the Plumber."

Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, confirmed today that she OK'd the check on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher following the Oct. 15 presidential debate.
The rub? She's a max $2300 donor to the Obama campaign.

When you guys buy the line that he brought it on himself, you enable and encourage this behavior.
