ANY suggestions?
I hit the lottery, just bought a house, and want a big TV for it.

Thank you.

This is the internet, so believing the "lottery" thing is difficult... but still I wonder. Seriously?

Yea, I won some money, but, bought a house with part of it, so, trying to stay around 3K for the TV, thank you though. $24,999.99 is a bit pricey for me.

Found this at Best Buy today:

Any thoughts? I really do not know enough about them to make an educated decision.

I didn't check the link yet, but if you're going to do best buy, make sure it's at least a magnolia store. Also, as for the really large tv's check out sharp elite series, and some of the mitsubishis. Not to many manufacturers go past 65".

Also, I noticed after looking at your link the specs don't list anywhere the type of lighting system that screen uses. Led is fine, but is it edge lit, local dimming, etc? Sharps have good pictures but really bad light blooming all over the screen in scenes with a lot of black.

I'd educate yourself over on the AVS forums before running out and buying whatever the idiot at best buy suggests.

Thank you Larreth.

I will be honest, up till now, my finances have not really allowed me to even look at a new TV, so, I am a bit behind the curve, so, I am not even sure what some of that stuff means.

My present TV is an old 30+" CRT I bought in 1996 Right before I got out of the Navy. It still works, but, I am buying a New House with part of my Lottery Winnings and getting all new.

I used the Sharp Link at Best Buy as an Example, and one that I could actually go see at the local store, but, have found the same items online for a lot less, and no tax. (Connecticut Sales Tax is 6.35%, so, at $3000 that saves me over $190 over the cost at Best Buy in JUST Tax, not mentioning that is is a few hundred $$ cheaper.)

http://fassie.com/LED_TV/?Order=4 has 2 different Sharp TV's that fit into the 70"/3D mark I want to fill.

Sharp AQUOS Quattron LC-70LE845U 70" Class 3D LED TV Retail Price: $3,799.00/Our Price: $2,699.00

And

Sharp AQUOS LC-70C8470 70" Class Quattron 3D Full HD Smart LED LCD HDTV Retail Price: $4,499.00 Our Price: $2,799.99

Also, most of the time they say NOT to get extended Protection Plann for things you buy, but, does that apply to Televisions like this?

I have a rule about extended protection plans.

If I can easily afford to replace it, I don't buy the replacement plan.

If replacing it would cost more than an entire paycheck, I buy the replacement plan.

I would not spend all that money on a 3D tv really, a nice 1080p LED TV, with a 120hz+ refresh rate would be just as good. 3D TV is just still too gimmicky.

Forget 3D. No one has any long term plans to continue publishing media for it. It's a fad.

We're all pushing forward with 1080p H.264- or X.264-encoded video for practically everything. You should be able to find yourself a 70" 1080p TV for under 3k this year without any trouble.
