Anyone familiar? I'm purchasing a new home where I will wall mount the tv above the fireplace. Not much room to add cable boxes, blue ray, etc, and run cables, I'd like to keep it clean.

Is there a solution that will let me broadcast from my various devices hdmi out into the tv hdmi in? I can deal with placing a small wireless receiver near the tv much easier than media devices.

The first question is -- do you ever actually plan on using the fireplace (during the rare actual winters here...) -- If so, please god don't mount the tv over the fireplace.

Second, my friends and I haven't yet found a solution for this same problem in our collective hackerspace. Everything we found has either been of unacceptable quality (2-3 second delay in video v audio, downsampling of 1080p content, etc)

If you never plan on using the fireplace, your best solution is to run the wires through the wall. It involves a decent bit of drywall cutting/patching and cable fishing, but is guaranteed to work.

Mounting the TV over the fireplace might be "pretty" but its not ergonomic (on top of not being good for the TV).

You should be looking down at your TV ideally not up...

Of course that depend on people but most likely your wife wanted it over the fireplace am I right? Bad idea.

Aesthetically it works well in the house.. The fireplace is mostly decorative. We will be turning a carriage house over our garage into a movie room, so it's not a problem to have some limitations.

In regards to the position of the TV vertically, I think the seating is far enough away to alleviate that. Again, aesthetics > function in living room. Movie room function > aesthetics.

I'm trying to figure out if any LED tvs have Blu Ray built in. I think I just need to go to Frys.

HDMI is a very high-density stream and is vulnerable to crosstalk. Transmitting it wirelessly, unless it had the whole damn waveform to itself (it won't), would cut your signal to shreds every time someone in the room got a text.

Wire it up, through the wall if you need to.

My suggestion? Get a tv with built in WiFi that has Netflix and/or Hulu Plus built in.

I can't find a single tv that looks worth a damn that has built in blu-ray.

TV manufacturers are actually more eager to get rid of physical media than I am.

2 years ago I bought a 46" Insignia TV (120hz, 1080p) and a small HP Pavilion Computer plugged in, I put a blu ray player in the computer and have not looked back. Quite a fantastic little setup.
