Way back about 2000 I had Coral Gallery and it came with Photohouse.
It allowed me to capture screenshots and edit them, crop, do some basic effects and convert them to Jpeg's and Bitmaps and such. I could load from whatever was in the copy/screenshot buffer or pull up a pic.

The computer I upgraded to uses the multimedia version of XP, and, for some reason, that old program does not work any more.

Any free programs out there that will give me that ability? Mostly so I can convert screenshots to something I can use.

Thank you.

mspaint will do what you want, in a very basic fashion.

otherwise you're stuck with pay software.

If I take a screenshot, will it capture it so I can make it into a Jpeg or Bitmap?

Am I jaded when I see posts like this and think, "why don't you just download Lightroom?"

I would try Picasa worthy for organization.

If I knew what it was, I would probably do it.

It's pretty awesome software for manipulating/editing pictures. I'd assume it is mainly used for people with DSLR cameras who take RAW photos.

You can make a picture like this:

Look like this with just a few alterations (I spent 10 mins altering it, as an example):

lightroom is useless if you're not using a good digital camera (micro 4/3, fuji x100 or dslr) :P

I wouldn't call it useless. But getting back to the original topic, if you were going to gank Lightroom, you could just as easily gank something else (like Photoshop). I think for your needs, however, Paint would work just fine. Too bad you don't have Windows 7. The MS Paint on Win 7 is actually pretty nice.

I'd also recommend GIMP or Picasa.

Paint.NET is awesome, but I'm a bit subjective -- a buddy wrote it.

One of the best parts of going back to school was getting student cost Adobe (Insert Product here). Yay for cheap legal software I've been using for years. :p
