I'm working on a friends's Grandmother's Dell Dimension 2400. I managed to convince dell to send me the recovery disk packs, which was nice of em.

I reinstalled XP on it and then realized that the drivers disk was quite generic. I managed to get video,ethernet and chipset up and running but I cannot for the life of me get the "Desktop system software" utility to run. I followed the order the stuff is to be installed but everytime i run this dell utility i get "Setup cannot continute on this machine" and exits.

From what I know it's a sort of dell "windows update" so it might not even be necessary, but I want this puter as stable and stock as it was when they bought it 5 years ago.

I figured I'd check here before spending another 2 hours on the phone with Calcutta.

1: is this necessary software?
2: is there some trick to getting it to run?
