GeForce GTX260 896mb or Radeon 5670 1gb?

I've been out of the hardware loop for too long with regards to desktops.

Specs on the 5670 pretty much blows the 260 away. Add into that that it uses way less power and you don't need 2 6pin PCI connectors to use it and DX11 capability and you have a win-win.

You can also Xfire the 5670 1gb versions, but not the 512mb versions.

This isn't for a home build, sad to say. I'm pretty much over building machines myself. I was just really wondering if the added expensive for a 5670 was worth it.

To be honest, Dell has some really good deals on six core athlons :P

Though I may still do an ibuypower.com build with a quad core i5.

I'm actually in the same boat myself with regards to giving up self-built systems. Keeping up with increasing complexity of "approved hardware" lists and making sure components work with one another has become a massive pain in the balls. Nvidia leaving the chipset business helps, but not entirely. Intel needs to keep putting the hammer on standards rather than letting chipset makers go batshit modifying reference boards beyond OEM's.

I'd rather buy from a vendor, who are getting competitive nowadays with bulk ordering, and get a guarantee of compatibility. Customization of systems direct from vendors is so much better now than it used to be. I look at issues I've had with mine (memory/xmp nonsense + creative card + etcetcetc) and the overall cost, then compare to the XPS I bought my wife last year that's only ever had the case opened once (to add a drive) and I just see how it's not worth it anymore. Especially since overclocking/voltage hacking doesn't provide the gains it used to.

Uhh every where I look the 5670 is 50-100 bucks cheaper than the 260...

I already have a 260, the default video options were "onboard" :p

As it stands, I went with a studio xps 9000 with a i7 920 and a hd5870.
