Ok, so when my old computer's hard drive crashed I had a tech come out & recover my stuff and stick it on an external hard drive. I had some time this morning so I figured I'd transfer the stuff to my new computer. Every time I try I am getting an "access denied" message. My old comp was running WinXP & the new one is Win7. Is that the problem? Anyone know a fix?

Thank you!

Gotta reset the folder permissions. This happens from time to time. For each root folder (ie - X:\Backup or X:\Documents and Settings, etc) on the drive, go into the properties of the folder, go to Security -> Advanced -> Owner Tab and set your user (or Administrators) and select Replace for owner object permissions (it's something like that, you'll spot it). You may have to do this twice, it can get a bit quirky. Once done, close out explorer, reopen and you should be good to go.
