A+ not to hard

I have not taken the others.

A+, Network+, Security+ not so hard.

CISSP is not so easy, but I wouldn't say that it's a hard test.

CISSP isn't just a test though. It's one of the more comprehensive certifications, in that it requires time spent in the concentration of information security as well as a recommendation from a current CISSP. I've been thinking about taking the test. The practice tests seem easy enough.

Thanks. I just landed a new job working for the AF consolidated help desk. So the more certs I have the more $$. The CISSP is more for Kezz, he's the one that works on the Security Cert side.

A+ is super easy if you know anything about computers

Net+ is pretty easy too, might need to do a little studying

Security+ is definitely harder than the other two, but not too hard. Hardest part for me was which ports are for which protocols.

CISSP is a great cert to have. Like Leo stated you have to have X amount of years in a security position and then get someone to nominate you. It's also a very long test, like 4-6 hours or something and it's all paper and pencil.

Here's the money question: Have you seen any tangible results having these certs?

I don't think many places give bonuses for anything given by CompTIA anymore.

I know my current employer only looks at Cisco certs and higher level security certs (Sun/Oracle certs don't hurt either)

As far as tangible results.

Many Government IT positions require that you have a Security+ or higher to hold the position. You can get the position without it, but you have six months to take and pass the exam.

These positions can earn you anywhere from 50k-100k, depending on who it is your working for.

I'm pretty sure avg salary for CISSP is around 100k also. A+, Net+, and Sec+ are all much lower though for avg salary, with A+ and Net+ being basically meaningless.

I've also been informed recently that any CompTIA exam that is taken after 2010 will have to be renewed every so often. Anyone that has taken previous versions will be grandfathered in, but it's a good idea to take the bridge exams anyways.

Well I know the company I'll be working for does. Beyond them for now I don't really care. I've been out of the AF Communications/Computer Operator field for 10 years, so this is my foot back in the door.

I saw that, and think that's awesome :)

I just wish that more employers would consider the merits of certs, but not many do in Atlanta =/

So long as it's not the Microsoft side of the house. They've swung back to the easy days of NT4 again. I've been interviewing cert monkeys left and right and I'm not even breaking a sweat taking a shit on these people, ESPECIALLY those getting Sharepoint certs.

Thank god the R2/2010 tests are looking to be more difficult again.
