If I built a system with an SS HD with Win7 what do I gain over a SATA2 with Vista Ultimate 64?

Will the difference be tangible? If so, I have heard there is a HUGE range with the quality and speed of SSHD's... thoughts?

if you do (which I don't personally recommend for a home system), then make sure to get one with TRIM support and wear leveling.

That being said, you get a respectable performance boost at the cost of many times what you'd pay for a standard SATA drive, and much less capacity.

I agree with Van here, I really like SSD's on my laptops but wouldn't put one into my home system until they go down a lot in price. I had a Dell Mini 10v with a SSD is was much nicer then the HDD it came with.

I actually just finished receiving all my new puter stuff and decided to avoid the SSD's for a while.

They are just too damn expensive for the capacity and are still riddled with firmware and other issues.

I've got 3 60GB OCZ Vertex SSD drives in a RAID0, along with a 1TB data drive in my current system. It fucking smokes face, and the price is sub-$200.

Where the fuck can you get three of those for less than $200? :P

Or even one for that matter.

Ocz's seem to be a lot more fairly priced. It looks like those intel model whatevers are the ones folks are flocking to due to their speed and controller...but those are also the ones being sold well over retail price and with the issues.

Folks do seem to really like their Ocz's

The OCZ Agility and Vertex are just great. I believe the OCZ Summit line has now had TRIM added as well, but that could just be the Corsair P line.

Really what you want is:

OCZ, Corsair or Intel with TRIM support. TRIM doesn't do anything beyond keeping your drive running at "new" speed. And potentially making file deletion very, very permanent.

Vertex and Agility both have TRIM, as well as garbage collection until the controller driver is able to pass trim commands via RAID.

As for pricing, here ya go:

Enjoy, sir.

That depends. I see substantial impact on loading times for games and Win7, as well as phenomenal performance on virtual machines (including xpmode).
