I am going to start recording and editing my shows and sell them as DVD's.

I can get NERO 9 for $69.99. It looks like it has all the basics I need to edit and burn to DVD, but, I am ignorant as to what is available. Should this be fine or does anyone have suggestions for something at a similar price range that is better?

PowerDirector isn't a bad paid product. If you're a vista user, consider downloading the updated version of Windows MovieMaker. It's not quite MAC-like, but it does a very admirable job of editing DVD's and won't cost you a dime.

Nero is fucking bloatware however.

Speaking as someone who edits films and makes over a thousand DVD's a football season, I can give you two suggestions.

1. Nero is a quality program if all you are wanting to do is capture your camera footage to HDD and add a few transitions, chapters and a menu and render it to DVD. But like Elle said, it is extremely boated if you do the full install. I recommend only installing a few things; Nero Showtime, Vision and Express. Vision to make your movie, showtime to play it and express to burn it to a DVD.

2. If you are looking to do more, such as sound editing, overlays, PIP, zooming and effects, then I would suggest laying out the $100 for Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate. It is relatively user friendly and quite powerful.

If you are going to film in HD, both of these programs can render to Blu-Ray or AVCHD. JUST BE AWARE, YOU MUST HAVE A SERIOUS MACHINE TO DO High Def. A P3-350 will not cut it.

Shit, I consider myself to be pretty video savy and Premier Pro and Avid's Liquid 7 are both beyond my comprehension...

if you have Premiere Pro and want some pretty good tutorial videos, you should check out the videos this guy makes:

Granted, they are for making Eve Online videos, but they still do a good job teaching some of the things you can do with movie editing (like making the Star Wars intro). I haven't watched the Sony Vegas videos, but I'd bet they were pretty good as well.

Making the star wars intro is pretty basic stuff, most programs have scrolling text titles included.
