Just ordered one of these for myself. N80Vn-X5
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834220488

$1049.99 (3 day UPS ship +$17.92)
display: 14" LED 1280x1024 (higher contrast than TFT displays) 15.4" is hefty, 17" is huge
cpu: core duo 2.4Ghz P8600 25mW 1066 FSB
ram: 4Gig DDR2
video: Geforce 9650M GT 1Gig (faster than 8600M GT, a little slower than 8700M GT)
HD: 320G @ 7200rpm
wifi: N, (G, B)
OS: Windows Vista Premium Home 64bit
weight 5.7 lbs
dimensions: 13.39" x 9.85" x 1.45" WxDxH
Asus 2 yr limited parts/labor warranty

My old gaming laptop was 15.4", 1.6Ghz dual core, 3Gig DDR2 RAM, Geforce 8600M GT, 320G 5400rpm, wifi G, Windows Vista Premium Home 32bit, 6.3 lbs, 14.12" x 10.59" x 1.65" WxDxH
playing WoW at 1280x1024

Should see a nice improvement on the new N80Vn-X5
Only complaints I've read is that the touchpad buttons click loudly? heh
Should get it on Wed.

Asus also has coming out the N81-VP-C1 with 2.66 cpu and ATI Radeon 4650 which is a bit better than the Geforce 9650, but you're paying $200 more.

Also a couple months out is the N81Vg with Geforce GT 120M.

Not sure on this gpu, most of what I read said it's weaker than 9650, but has more features. No laptop kits or pricing out yet.

=D

Funny kid doing a review of essentially the same laptop as N80-VN-X5.
This older model has 5400rpm HD, X5 has 7200rpm.

I love his bit about Vista.

14" is about what you'd need to have to feel confident about this being a true "gaming" laptop.

14" is about as low as I'd go.

Got the idea, my home laptop is 15.4", my work laptop is 14" and so much easier to tote around. Calling it my big PSP.

Possibly by a 25mW 2.4Ghz C2D cpu, and low power 9650M GT gpu that beats my current 8600m GT.

My biggest debate is whether to replace the Vista 64 OS with XP32, go from 4Gig to 3.6G RAM and finally get overlay in vent back. Why 32? Have the CD already.

Got the laptop last night, did my gigs of patching and loving it.
Went from 25-35 fps to 35-45 fps in Dalaran.

Kept the Vista 64 on it, as I use that on/off button program a guy wrote and overlay in vent is working.
Trick is using 32 bit vent and running in XP 32 SP2 compatibility mode.

Likes:
obviously faster cpu, ram, gpu
webcam with software to do face recognition for login (my geek got hot)
fingerprint reader for login
LED screen is brighter
smaller size, lighter weight
Asus 2 yrs warranty, and 1 yr accidental drop, spill, fire, explosion, warranty

Dislikes:
Using a non intel wifi chip, so I don't have my cool radio signal meter in taskbar, has asus icon
Heat vent is on the right side, instead of left, blows at my mouse hand
No front volume buttons like my Dell had

Still playing at 1200x800 wide, so I just copied over my WoW WTF files and everything is exactly
where I left it.

I have that as seen on tv notebook tray

I don't use the light, or extended legs. Base legs is just above my lap.

Notebook bed gaming is the FUTURE!
Don't stay leashed to your desktop rig, free yourself to play anywhere !

My laptop has the vent on the right hand side too.. Why would they do that?

Nothing like 140 degree air blowing on my hand to make me enjoy my computer use.

Also, my laptop's mouse pad is right where my thumbs should rest while typing... I graze constantly.

Well, this thing was just designed by a chimp, I am convinced of it.

The touchpad is synaptics and I checked the box to disable if mouse detected. It tells me about it every time I boot up.

That little radio signal bar is intel wifi only right?
I could have sworn I saw it initially when I started up, and now it's gone.
I like to know my signal as I move about the house.
I likely will grab a widget for it now.
