Anyone have a clean download somewhere? Every one I get is corrupted or laden with mallware.

OEM = bulk purchases.

retail = usually not.

Also, the OEM license severely restricts its usage.
Whereas, the retail license "allows" you to transfer it between computers at will, and even "downgrade" to any previous version.

OEM licenses don't require activation however so MS will never be the wiser where or how you use it.

You're confusing OEM EULA with OEM licensing. OEM licensing is based on a manufacturer SLIC NOT present in a home built system (unless otherwise modified) that allows for auto activation.

You can (and will) in fact purchase OEM copies of Vista that require activation if you're not a sysbuilder.

Some of us are already using it ;) I'll provide a link to the XPM (xp mode) files so you can give that a run too. It's pretty fucking slick.

Nevermind that other question

Quote:
IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.

Me needs to backup data i guess!

You'll want to do a fresh install of this build, trust me. Especially if you're using 7077 which was a real shithead of a build.

Maybe it's because I'm trying 4 hours later, but I'm getting a very consistent 1.5 MB/s. Teehee.

It's probably too late to share this with you, but some folks have documented a method of upgrading from the beta to RC1 (with a bit of hackery).

edit: So ya, I checked my processor information on newegg and it says 64bit support aaaand I have 4gigs of ram. Good to go on 64bit Win7 ya?

Wow this fucking downloader applet is useless. Can't even manage to recover from timeouts and continue downloading. Make the Fallout 3 release on Steam seem flawless.

Maybe I should try a 4th time...

Everytime I get to expanding files it errors out, anyone else having this issue?

if you're getting those kind of errors, chances are you've got a bad burn or bad ram.

The same was true of Vista. There's was much lower threshold for errors for RTM than RC1.

Had some problems during install as well. Apparently it didn't like that I had 2 monitors plugged in so after it completed install it just gave me a black screen forever.

To be honest I'm a little torn. On one hand it's a pretty nice OS, everything looks cool and functions for the most part, but if you aren't familiar with Vista quirks I think you may be in for a tough ride. First thing I do is try to access files on my secondary drives to do something as simple as update my wallpaper. Ya that wasn't happening. I guess this is something Vista introduced but I couldn't access a fucking thing unless I took ownership of the folders. So after figuring that out and turning off the UAC things have been going pretty well. My biggest concern now is getting mkvs working and subtitles along with them. :X

Oddly enough, K-Lite Codec Pack Standard is the most reliable for that on RC1. Mark this as the first time I've EVER recommended that codec pack for someone. I'll let you know when you don't have to use it anymore!

I'll try that, thanks Ele. If anyone cares or needs it, the newest version of Daemon Tools works on Win7 as well.

So far now that ive gotten 80% of the programs I need installed. It seems to run very smoothly with 3 monitors even. But when I started install I had to only have one monitor connected to make it see it.

Picture inc!

It took a while to get all of them working together.

So who wants to help me identify why I've blue screened 3 times since I installed win7 yesterday? Happened once in Aion last night, once in FFXI tonight and then a few minutes ago when I was just on vent clicking around in windows and talking to people on aim. Not much information to go on but tell me what I need to provide you guys and I'll do it!

Did any of you have issues with wireless network drop outs when trying to access say the internet after an extended period of time...I'll give a scenario.

Connected to the internet, playing World of Warcraft (not a lot of bandwidth), connected to AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Skype, Curse Client.

Open up IE or Chrome, get to Windows Live homepage, click a new link and instantly dropped from my wireless connection.

After about 20 seconds, it reconnects, everything is fine until about an hour later when I need to access the internet again.

I noticed if I was running a decent download speed in utorrent at all times, it was not an issue.

This was with 7048 64 bit, I have the RC...if I upgrade do you think it will fix that issue?

Maybe it will but RC has to wipe out that harddrive.

I bought the Newegg special and got the Vista 64 bit and got the free 7 64 bit.

Looking forward to it. May wait towards the end of the year or maybe first of next year before I begin converting everything.

Right now, i'm in Mac mode so i'm waiting for SnowLeopard for my new Mac stuff.

Don't bother waiting.

Do it as soon as you possibly can.
