- Side bar gadgets can be put anywhere.
- Installation time was only 45Min
- Did not have one compatibility issue with any drivers on my current computer.
- Only downfall I need to install vista in August when this beta expires >_<

IE8 is still in beta, and it's probably in "standards compliance mode" anyway.

Is Win7 to Vista basically what WindowsMe was to 98?

Vista = Windows 98 / ME

Win7 = Windows XP

I'd more closely associate Win 7 with Windows 2000 than XP.

Windows 7 will have the longevity (imo) of XP, so to me it's more accurate to say that.

mmm, that remains to be seen.

Windows 7 does, and will have some more, issues, but it's reasonably stable and performs well. I just wish they'd get out of this "three versions of one os" thing and come out with "windows 7 home" and "windows 7 business" -- there's no reason to have "home", "business" and "ultimate"

Didn't they do that?

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2340338,00.asp

Ultimate won't really be sold in retail, rather it'll be Home, and "Business" a.k.a. "Professional"

I think they're still going with the "three versions" option for the US. I'm pretty sure that decision isn't final yet.

Regardless, they need to axe the 32 bit version.

Won't be axed with this release sadly.

And for the record, the "omg Vista is ME" shit is tired. It's NOTHING like ME was heh. The vast, vast, vast, vast majority of issues were a direct result of shitty driver implementations by a few major manufacturers. Vista's short Beta/RC cycle was a contributor however, in fairness to those douchebag manufacturers ;)

I have been running Vista 64bit and 32bit for some time, the big thing is with vista you need hardware to run it.

Everyone loved Vista until they actually tried to use it in production.
My only qualm on Vista is Vent Overlay won't run. Not going to XP for that.
I am hopeful for Windows 7, but wouldn't touch it until corporate America touches it which is "maybe" after SP1. Usually SP2.

Running it right now and it's just as good (and better, WAY better imo) as Vista.

I'm still not ready to give up XP.

I would put myself into the "casual" PC user these days, and frankly, XP is perfect.

My family has 6 computers and not one of them could benefit in any way from a new operating system.

How "awesome" can you make checking your email and getting recipes?

The problem is, XP works, and works well for what I would say is the vast majority of users.

When the computer they're on finally dies and the new one they buy has hardware that has no XP support, they'll be forced into an upgrade.

This is microsoft's marketing.

microsoft doesn't care about people who don't upgrade, they just want their shit sold on new machines.
