I've been having problems in Firefox 3.0.5 with fonts on a number of pages. I can't seem to find anything else on this problem, so I figured I'd post it here. Below is a screenshot of what I see when the issue comes up. It's from a thread in the Politics section on these boards, so you might recognize it.

that post uses weird characters, try going to view -> character coding and select Unicode (utf-8). if it doesn't work it might be cause you don't have the right windows language pack that has those characters or something.

Yeah, I've already got it set to UTF-8. I see this more on games like AE where people use odds characters/fonts, and it's been showing up in my google searches fairly often. I just checked on IE, and it shows up funky on there as well.

Recommendations? Is there someplace I can update/download a language pack?

Okay, bumping this, because it's apparently not a Firefox issue. It's an issue with my computer, because it happens in a number of programs including both Firefox and IE.

I have Windows XP Media Center edition. Not sure what else I'd need to know, but this crap is driving me nuts and I've no idea how to fix it.

Don't re-format, just put your CD in and run a windows repair.

I'm running Symantec Antivirus, and I use Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware regularly.

Someone asked me to take a look and see if I had a certain font installed. I looked, it was there. Then miraculously everything started working properly. The symbols were showing up in Firefox, IE, Office, etc.

I have no idea wtf happened. But I'm not going to complain.
