Looking for something easily portable, can be powered via USB on the left side, works well (obviously) and quietly. Metal or metal look preferred.

Do you have any free expansion slots, and if so, what kind?

I have an ExpressCard slot on the left side, why? What are you thinking?

There's a company that makes a cooling fan that fits into the ExpressCard slot and pumps air into the chassis there. But since I couldn't find that, I present you...

I think that'd get in the way, given my often odd posture while working. Something under the machine would be much more helpful. I'm not worried about the laptop overheating so much as I want it for comfort purposes.

Nifty idea though!

Oh, you just want a tray under the laptop? They're available by the dozens on newegg. Type 'laptop cooler' in the search.

If you have a Frys around, go there. They usually have 4-6 models on the shelves.

My only problem with laptop coolers that sit underneath is that they draw air from the bottom of the laptop and send it out the back of the cooler vs pushing the air up to the laptop and allowing the laptop fans to draw it in.

I've ridden one of those cooler scooters, they can do donuts and top out at about 15mph.

Believe me, if we had a Fry's anywhere in Florida, I wouldn't be here. ;)

Do all the Fry's look and feel like flea markets? I have only been to the one here in Austin but it looks as bare bones as possible with a ton of open boxed items on "sale".

Sorry to hijack Leo but I always wondered =p.

Not here in AZ. The one here used to be an Incredible Universe or something. It's like a mini-mall with a lot of diff subsections.

The one in Atlanta is a glorious temple of plastic and silicon.

The one here used to be an Incredible Universe. It's fucking huge. You could easily put 4 Best Buy stores inside ours and still have room to park 100 cars...

I ended up picking up a CoolerMaster Notepal for my macbook pro. Aluminum finish. 3 fans. It works pretty well, all thing considered, and was pretty cheap.

Powered on USB and provides a slot to give back the one it is taking.

How loud are they?

The fan in my laptop sounds like an aircraft powering up whenever flash is on a website.

I frequently find myself checking to see if it is actually on, since I can't hear it. :p
