My 7900GTXs are showing their age. I'm getting stutter/lag in WoW. That's annoying. I also notice some weird artifacting like the ground popping in and out turning black and then normal texture colors.

What's a great replacement for 2 7900 GTX cards? I am looking to pick up only 1 card right now. Preferably under 300$

Haha, WoW is doing that?

Might want to consider a driver update/fresh install.

There's no reason those cards should have any issues with WoW unless they're dying which I sort of doubt. Unless you're just really wanting to blow money don't bother.

Yeah clearly re-loading drivers is SUCH an hassle compared to removing 2 cards from the case and then installing new drivers.

BTW you should just unclog the fans/heatsinks of those poor cards from all the dust you let accumulate by not cleaning once in a while...

Words can't even begin to describe how dumb you are.

I was referring to a fresh install. I've already updated the drivers.

As far as cleaning goes, I let my daughter clean out the inside of the computer once a week with compressed air. That's not the issue. Dummy.

I'd be concerned about letting a little kid inside my box.

Geforce 260. I mean if you really want to spend money.

My daughter is 7 and is of above-average intelligence. If your 7 year old kid can't spray air onto a fan without wrecking something then perhaps natural selection would have been a better choice for God.

Thanks for the tip on the card.

Can of compressed air does shit when it comes to cleaning fans/sinks. Take an old toothbrush to it and dont brush it so it falls into the card.

If that doesn't fix it you have a failing card. Grab a couple of 8800GTS's or just one GTX260 and you should be fine. :P

I reinstalled Vista, no dice. New drivers, no dice. I don't really want to take the computer apart and meticulously clean a heatsink and fan. In 15 years of computer and gaming I've never had to do that. I just think my cards are dying.

My old 7800 once started to exibit those exact symptoms and there was literally a blanket of dust inside the heatsink. It was dust all weaved together kinda like what happen with the filter in a dryer. Note that the inside of the PC was pretty clean. The space between fins on heatsinks these days is very small and easy to clog.

I am very sure it's whats causing your problem but if you are only looking for a reason to switch vid card then do it. New hardware is fun.

How much are you looking to spend? ATI has a great new line out that's been kicking nvidia's ass, 48x0. Or are you stuck on a geforce SLI mobo?

Upgrading to a new video card just means it's going to run hotter, and will eventually cake over with burnt dust just like your present two. Like has been said if you are just looking at upgrading to another video card, do it. If you want to keep what you have, then clean the clogged fans.

You haven't had to do it in 15 years because older cards didn't require the power of a small star to run and didn't get hot enough to fry eggs. An 8800 will probably run double as hot.

You cant just take a can of compressed air and go to town inside a case. You have to remove it or it's just going to wind up in the same place you blew it around from. Case fans require cleaning also, not just cards.

You can't go wrong with either the GTX260 Core 216 or the ATI 4870 1GB (NOT the 512) right now.

Just put the thin nozzle on your vacuum cleaner, that sucks out all the dust I find.

If cleaning isn't doing it, it sounds to me like you need a better heatsink system, and maybe a bigger case with better airflow. WOTLK brought in some new graphics upgrades and it's probably heating up your cards just enough to cause the artifacting.

This is why I love my Antec 900. Airflow is so nice and machine stays relatively cool. I am using a BFG NVIDIA 8800 GTS and i'm lovin it on Warhammer.

What a moron, these cans of compressed air are not really cans of air at all.

There are chemicals to make air dry and you should not be letting a child use this, as some of the compressed air on the market should only be used in well ventilated area's.

That aside, it is easy to get frost bite burns on the skin if the air is discharged long enough.

A child should never be allowed to use hazardous chemicals.

But coming from you, I am not surprised.

Nope. One 8800GTS would have been better and only slightly more expensive.
