I have a ViewSonic CRT, about 6 years old. It seems to black out whenever I view a website that has a white background. Or anything with a white background for that matter, like the picture viewer for windows, or sometimes loading a new page for a second the background is white so it blacks out even if the background is black, but to fix it I turn the monitor on/off and it stays on if there's a colored background, and it'll black out again if the background is white.

I've tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers, still happens. I also noticed that it didn't happen when I had no drivers, so I was thinking it might be the drivers. It will occasionally blackout when opening a video file, and I've had it happen a few times playing games, usually when a lot of white is on the screen, though I tried reproducing it and I zoomed in and out on white-colored areas without blacking out.

Prior to this my monitor flickered and clicked. Like for a second the screen seemed to shrink then a clicking noise came and it went back to its original state. I'm getting a new monitor in case its just this one getting old, would really suck if its a video card issue.

Yep had the same thing happen with one of mine, it's a dying monitor. Someone told me exactly what it was...but I forget now. I do recall that trying to fix it = more than the cost.

I ended up getting another viewsonic though. Very happy w/ them, and I went widescreen ginormous and love it. (Actually have to turn my head sometimes in WoW it's great!)

So have some fun with it. Go get a magnet, turn the monitor on and move it around the screen and watch the pretty colors!

Just don't break it open. Poisons and dangerous high voltage sources abound.
