Someone's gotta know this. What is the actual name for the type of searching that allows you to type the first letter of an item in a large list and have it start sorting closer and closer to the item the more info you type?

Did that make sense?

Say you are looking for the word "Puppy" in a huge list. It starts at "A" and when you type in "P" it takes you down to P, the Pu, then Pup etc...until you can select off screen.

Trying to describe something to a dense IT person.

Nope. Unless you're referring to being able to type half a command and hit tab to have it complete, at which point it's "tab completion"
