Nothing very exciting, though it does seem zippy. (But then again, so does Firefox.)

I by default hate it because it's using an inferior HTML rendering engine (KHTML/WebKit, the same one used by Safari and Konqueror). If they'd gone with Gecko (Firefox), I'd like it a bit more. I really don't think the world needs another browser.

this is in the ToS

"By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services."

Yeah, I think that's in the ToS for the world wide web now, since google has access to ... almost all of your data anyway.

No. That's a little bit over the edge as far as what they own when you view through their browser.

I don't see anything about owning. They're reserving the right to use it, that doesn't mean it belongs to them.

So if somebody said to you "by submitting, posting or displaying the content you give me a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services." you'd be fine w/ it?

I mean, if you wrote a song, and transmitted it through their browser, they could now use it, sell it for commercials, perform it with another band, without any credit or payments to you, etc. That's owning buddy. Or what about all the code you developed, or the images you created for a website? The list goes on and on.

While not technically "owning" -- it's for all intents and purposes, owning whatever you do in their browser.

so, NOW you give a crap about copyright? o_O

What an odd double standard you have.

Yeah kind of strange. I think any company that tries to do that has something wrong with them. I'm not all tinfoil about this, I just think that's an overly broad policy and in a day in age where we're moving towards more privacy / security on the internet, I am not sure how much I like it.

I'd be more concerned about private emails and whatnot, but I think all of the speculation around how Google is going to use your data is getting ahead of itself...

Has anyone actually set up a packet sniffer to see if Google is receiving a copy of the pages you're browsing or forms you're submitting? If not, proving that you did whatever you did with Chrome is going to be difficult and that line is likely more CYA for them than anything else.

If I had typed this in Chrome, Google would legally own the copyright to it.

I'm using it right now, and daddy like.

It is faster for me... noticeably faster.

Edit*

I don't like the privacy settings. You have to open an "incognito" window to browse without having to clear a history. I like to be able to click on donkey show pron without having my wife look at me weird if she sees it in the history.

On a serious note though, I just went to stileproject and clicked on a random link to test something out.. Then when I went to my history, sure enough, "adult friend finder" and "sex search.com" came up in the browser history, even though they were blocked pop-ups.

This sorta shit can get somebody in some serious trouble. I'm innocently watching some chick getting screwed by 70 guys, then my wife sees the browser history and suddenly I'm trying to find somebody to hook up with.

The history searching stuff for find old stuff is so damn nice. Saves the need of trying to semi-remember the address to find it in the history.

Fuck up and close a tab? Open a new tab(or click the home key, or alt+home) and down on the right hand bottom corner is a "recently closed tabs" window that you can just re-open it with a single click. I would like to be able to delete individual history items though.

The old TOS thing really seems like a copy/paste of the google blog page TOS, since I'm sure that was in it.

For being out of beta less then a week, I'm really happy with it, minor tweaking here and there on some things will be perfect.

I miss the Undo Close Tab feature in Firefox, but that's a halfway decent workaround. I also miss zooming that includes graphics and layouts.

The browser is fast.

Leo, it'd be trivial for Google to demonstrate that you'd used their browser to post something, if they wanted to do so. They just make the browser "sign" the source for whatever you're posting.

But it appears not to matter, since the language in the EULA that I was complaining about evidently upset others as well. It has since been deleted:

Quote:
11. Content licence from you
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content, you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services. This licence is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.
The stuff in italics was in the EULA until yesterday afternoon, but has vanished since.

What Tranthas is saying that it would somehow inject a "posted by google chrome" tag into what ever forms you submit, which is a technical impossibility, especially on forums like this, which have no HTML support.

i don't like how you can't float over the bookmarks tool bar and have each folder open. you have to manually click each one.

Wtf are you talking about? You can drag folders to the toolbar.

I am talking about if you have clicked open a folder on the toolbar, and then hover over other toolbars, in firefox they all automatically flip open

In chrome you have to click each folder open to view the bookmarks in each folder

Yeah but... they should all function like that. :P

I just tried it again, and it's compounded by the fact you have to

1) Click to Open
2) Click to Close
3) Click to Open another

That's 3 actions, where only 1 is necessary.

Not necessarily but I have a lot of folders and sometimes I like to flip through each one to find whatever I'd like to look up.

It just seems overly restrictive for some reason when it's not necessary. No other windows function like that inside operating systems, or browsers for that matter, not since like Windows 98 at least. Why would they do it in Chrome?

You have too goddamn many folders on your toolbar. I have as many (if not more) bookmarks than you probably do, and I've sorted them into folders and subfolders and I have no issues with it.

TBH, it's a usability enhancement that they make you actually click, since with firefox's default behavior letting you mouseover to open once clicked, you can open the wrong folder by accident and get pissed (like I sometimes do) :P

Even if this forum doesn't have metadata support, Google's cache of it can. These are the people who keep an archive copy of the Internet. Don't kid yourself about what they can and can't do with your content.

Google's cache is not relevant for copyright, since they can do whatever they want with it, only the original source is.

This thing is a turd when it comes to security. Our lab has found upwards of 11 critical flaws, and about 40 other issues.

Use this to beta, do NOT use this to browse. If we found it within days, someone is already writing the apps to exploit it. I can't publish them here, but watch security focus over the coming days.

Actually, if you're using IE7, you're about 20% safer than you are if you're using Firefox in regards to exploits from release. IE8 will be a significant improvement. It's no longer the joke of a browser it once was.
