I was wondering what sort of CMS you guys like/use. I remember talking about it awhile back, but I couldn't find the thread.

Wordpress is only a CMS if you use the right theme, of which there are few that make it a good CMS (Revolution being one, but it costs $60 or so, but is well worth it)

Joomla is a good CMS, as is ModeX -- though they can be daunting.

Just stay away from Post...anything.

Because it's not software? And the guy who writes it deserves money for his work?

Also, you do understand that downloading PHP code (which is what a wordpress theme is) from a site about piracy is fucking retarded right? That's an easy, easy way for your site to get owned and owned hard.

Nah, this is stuff I am recommending to my customers or installing for people. I can't be pirating it.

I know what PHP code (I was a Sr. Web developer for 4 years) is. =P

I don't think it's retarded, but I could see how someone could easily alter the code to perform malicious things and steal identities. I'm not daft.

If I were going to use the revolution thing, I would pay for it. I might try it from a torrent just to see what it is, but If I were going to really use it, I would pay for it.

I'm just setting up demo stuff for customers to look at that want a CMS. I am looking for the versatility, ease of use, available resources (widgets, templates, blocks, etc.,) and security.

I want to do everything from integrate photogalleries to ecommerce into them. Not looking for a huge hassle to do it though.

For example, our gaming site uses PHP-Nuke... I don't anything about CMS but everybody here says how shittastic it is... I just don't want to offer crappy stuff to folks who are looking for a site.

Well, look--

For people for who know even a TINY bit about web development / etc -- if you can upload it, or edit a few files, then you can fix it -- but for those who are new users to your site, they may want something they can get up and go with, w/o having to fuck with anything.

See what I mean? What kinda service are you running? If you're offering a "total" package, then you need to find something that fits your needs. If you're simply offering MySQL compatibility, that they can use their own software/apps with, then... that's all you need.

Are you a web hosting provider? Are you a local server trying to farm users from your church website? Etc. Who is your target customer?
