I am getting most excellent FPS in EQ,VG,EQ2 along with Supreme Commander and F.E.A.R. My FPS in SC and fear almost doubled and with the new setup I built and even VG stays above 80fps no matter where I go.
System is Intel DX38BT, E6550 cooled by a Zalman CNPS9700, 2gb DDR3 1333, 2 150gb Raptors in Raid 0 and 2 WD 500 in Raid 1, 850w Thermal Take Tough Power PSU and 2 HD 3870s in Xfire with ThermalTake DuOrb coolers in an Antec 900 case running Windows Vista Ultimate. Nothing on the system is OC'd, yet...
With both cards running in the PCIe 2.0 slots at 16x it is undeniably much faster than the old PCIe 1.0 setup at 1 16x and 1 4x. Also, putting the DuOrbs on reduced the core temps of the cards from 52 to 31 idle and 75 to 42 full load at 65% fan duty cycle. I DO believe after removing the stock coolers from the cards that you could probably save the $49 on the DuOrbs and clean the glob of junk thermal grease off of the GPU, lapp it with come 1500 grit and apply a thin coat of Arctic Silver 5 and probably reduce the temps by about 10c with adjustments to the fan speed in Riva Tuner. But the stock fan at anything over 50% is loud as hell. The DuOrb even at 100% is barely noticable.
