It's been some time since I last launched a new feature, a little over 3 years I believe, so forgive me if I'm a bit rusty with this.
In brief, Gutters is a series of standalone pages that parody the comic book industry and the heroes and characters that dwell within. Think of it as an editorial cartoon targeting comic books, and you’ll understand where we’re going with it.
While I’ll be writing Gutters, Lar will be the art director with Ed Ryzowski serving as colorist. As for who will be doing the actual art, well, that’s where things get interesting (and slightly different). Rather than have one artist pencil each page, we elected to have a rotating roster of professional artists, among them some giants in the comic book industry alongside new and emerging talent. This way, in addition to what I hope will be a humorous comic, Gutters will also be an ongoing showcase of art.
A new Gutters will be posted here every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Should you be unfamiliar with any of our previous work, that means you can count on a new page being uploaded at 12:00 AM ET, the day of.
Rather than using this space right here for blogging purposes, it will instead be primarily used for me to talk about the artist of this specific page, giving you a rundown of their career so far, along with related links.
This first page, however, is done by a man they call Lar deSouza, and it's fairly certain he needs no introduction from me. Still, should you have come here by chance, allow me to point you in the direction of some of Lar's work - Least I Could Do and Looking For Group.
With all that out of the way, I trust you will enjoy the first Gutters Page, and be sure to return on Wednesday for the next installment.
The above is the first one. They are up to page 151 on the website.
Some funny stuff there.
