Anyone watch it? I though it was pretty good, although having 2 people from Firefly on the show seemed a little distracting, for some reason. I really don't remember anything about the original and had no real idea what the show was going to be about.

Having just finished (re)watching the original mini and television series thanks to Syfy’s anal retentiveness.

The new Mothership’s are gorgeous, but defeat the purpose they were supposed to have in the original series.

They were designed to look Iconic to the “UFO” culture, and as the reporter in the original series put it the insides were ”disappointing, it looked much like what we would think any aircraft carrier might look like on the inside”.

Despite the size, once you got down to it, the vessels were just, not that impressive to humanity. It put humanity’s mind more at ease, making what was to happen all that more unlikely in the human mind.

The transport craft looked like… I dunno. But I preferred the modular, white fighter/shuttles from the original series.

The fact that this whole show played on modern day fears of terrorism and sleeper cells, annoyed me as well.*

Anna is gorgeous, of course, but she doesn’t “yet” have that BITCH!, quality Diana had. Course that could be because Diana was so forth right, among her own, about being an power hungry tyrant, and having the Dynasty hair-do and Disco get up helped I am sure.

The acting was, okay, but for some reason it just felt, flat, uninteresting; like they “phoned in” their performance. I guess, to a point, that was intentional on the Visitor’s parts.

It didn’t help that even with the major changes to the storyline, we were all sitting around predicting what was going to happen 5 minutes before each scene happened.

My OBVIOUS comment on “When’s the Independence day joke gonna happen” triggered that.

When the girlfriend said at the end; “Huh. What else is on the DVR?” and none of us cared we had just watched the show; I knew where it was going for the rest of the season.

* Note, not important to the post: The original script as written had nothing at al to do with Aliens. It was supposed to be about the rise of a populist facist movement in American culture. The network at the time was like “Boring. No.”. So it was rewritten to add aliens to play off Star Wars, BSG and Buck Rogers fame of the time, and the network ate that shit up.

I thought it was ok. They crammed way too much into the first episode though. There was no buildup. Not even the big reveal on the lizards. It's supposed to be an insidious plot no?

Did the original series jump in with them being an enemy that quickly?

I agree and was going to post that originally. They could have played on the Visitors helping mankind a little longer before the "big reveal" showing them as bad guys.

They could have left it a mystery that a few of the main cast members were actually Visitors in hiding as well.

I thought the first 20ish minutes were just boring. The rest was predictable.
None of the characters were well-drawn enough for me to give 2 shits about whether they ended up dead or not at the warehouse. In fact my only thought was how whateverhernameis having a lead would affect Lost.
As with all new shows I'll give it another episode because pilots/premieres are tough, but I don't have very high hopes.

I did find it interesting that the Visitors came in preaching change and hope then manipulated the media to get their own message across, used the Internet to build a grass-roots support base, and then pledged Universal Health Care.

I had to double check that this was on ABC

When are they replaying this? ABC has nothing else going on (which is why they replay Flash Forward 600 times a week), so I'd assume I can catch this pilot at some other point.

It was ok, they seem to be trying to seperate themselves from the old one at least a little with different storylines.

Water was one of the reasons they said they wanted help, in the old one they were stealing the water. Dammit, you have space ships, go get water from Neptune or something.

Having the Visitors more able to blend in seems like a central part of whatever plan they have for the show direction, you never know who will be a Visitor. Kind of like Cylons... may get annoying quickly.

Using humans for food (especially to feed newborns, that one brief shot seemed to show) looks like it will be the main secret.

Inarra does look way better with longer hair, I saw her on some show with short hair a while back and didn't recognize her.

Yeah they also have Flash and Grey's and Practice, which I watch, but they replay Flash like a billion times a second so I figure they'd do the same for this thing they've been hyping for eight and a half millenia

Yeah, I had been watching to see if he had a cameo in there somewhere.

Target had the original mini series on sale this past week for 10 dollars. I picked it up. I forgot how good it was back in the 80s. Even though the "look" of it is old school, it still holds up to this day...

You can catch missed episodes on Hulu, which is where I'm watching it because I don't DVR because I watch like 3 things at this point and that's it.

Anyway I think they got right down to business on Vs being bad because ... well we know that already from the original series.

I swear to god if they do that alien star/jesus baby shit from the original, I'm going to be soooo pissed.
