Given that one of my real life friends is an artist, and I've reconnected with a few college buds who went that route as well, I've started to slowly be drawn into the art world. I've made the step from "looking" into actually starting to collect. Figured I'd start a thread to see if others out there are watching the art scene as well.

Here's my latest purchase: Samural Girl by Deseo (BEHIND SPOILER BECAUSE IT HAS BOOBS)

I've become very, very enamored of Brian Despain's work. Amusingly enough, he used to do illustrations for Magic the Gathering cards once upon a time. This is probably one of my favorite pieces of his called "The Escape".

One of my friends turned me on to an artist named Sylvia Ji. Loving her stuff, not sure I'll ever be able to afford an original.

Image

Of course, I'd kill for a specific Luke Chueh print. I like all of his work, but love one piece in particular named Disintegration. I almost had one for a really reasonable price, but missed it by 12 hours. Gah!

Image

I've also been following Audrey Kawasaki. Some of her pieces are really, really nice. I'm fond of "She Who Dares" (below):

Anyone else got some favorite artists they watch and/or collect? I've been finding it rather interesting learning the whole "art is worth what you are willing to pay for it" lesson and which artists I am happy to have a print of the original from and which I really, really, really want to own an original from.

Sorry. Used to my own office environment where it doesnt matter too much. Modifying subject.

Edit: Actually, the spoiler tag works pretty well for this in letting people view the other pieces without that one being an issue.

Take a look at Luis Royo's stuff (nsfw, wont bother linking). You should be able to find prints for fairly decent pricing if you look around. Now that I own a condo I'm going to have to take a look at art to buy, after I'm done updating the flooring and stuff first though.

Here is some fine artwork of my own;

Velvet is the way to go, it captures the best in a painting, and as an added bonus, it won't bust your bank account!

Oh, and don't forget the power of the three wolves!

I really like a couple of those. The Brian Despain one in particular.

Despain is, hands down, one of my favorite artists. He's one I want an original from.

Ok, yeah. Pretty sure that if you decorate your condo with that stuff, you're going on some sort of federal list for soon-to-be serial killers.

Bah, some of it is way out there, but there's quite a bit of very well done not-really-nude female forms if you dig around. He's done a lot of work.

Another thing I'm strangely attracted to art wise are those mock-propaganda posters. Like the muppet ones (here and here) or the futurama ones (one here).

Dunno why though.

Well, I wouldn't decorate my apartment or anything, but I've always liked the Fallout art direction.

Louis Royo is in the same category as Boris Vallejo for me: "auto shop calender artists." They're technically proficient, and produce some stuff that I look at and say "that's pretty cool," but if you decorate your home with their prints, odds are that you live in a trailer.

Another artist I am digging is Nathan Ota. Here's a piece I like called Candy Colored Clown:

I've loved James Christensen for years. Never been able to afford any of his stuff though.
