Just finished a flick and it used what I consider one of the worst plot devices:

Getting the villian to confess on tape. Gah. So lazy.

Am I the only person who absolutely hates this? Any others? Just making conversation.

every movie bomb can only be disarmed in the last 10 seconds, which are conveniently ticked down on a red digital display, apparently provided by the terrorist for the good guys' ease of use

My favorite is how the villains always just throw their hands up and say, "Oh jeez, ya got me." and confess instantly on all the CSI (And other cop) shows.

Whenever I want to witness a movie with a bad plot device, I pop in any Michael Bay film.

Wow I really don't like him at all do I lol

Time travel.

Not really sure how to describe my other one. It is basically how I know "Who did it" in any murder mystery. You look at every character introduced to you and they go to extreme lengths to give you back story and "here's why THEY could have done it"....except for one character, who is usually a "Oh hi random person that walked into the room for a very brief scene to give us a look at you and then you are gone without any motivations being given"....that person? They did it. 99% of the time.

I have to agree with time travel. It's the bane of an otherwise good sci-fi genre and way overused.

Oh, and the whole, "Oh, the main character actually was the bad guy all along, the entire movie was just a delusion played out in his head, ok?" thing....that's annoying too.

Or the stupid kid who sees dead people sees the main character, who ends up being dead as well. Bleh.

I call this one the "Bones" villain. Seriously, watch the first 15 minutes of a few episodes and find the person who shows up for 30 seconds. That's almost always the guy.

I like this one in anime.

"I'm the bad guy and can whoop your ass, but your potential amuses me so we're gonna have a tournament after you do 2-4 episodes to learn some techniques and train with some kind of master."

Witholding essential information for the 'DUN DUN DUNNNN'. If you've withheld information that the characters had, but we didn't, so that your audience had no chance to figure it out, you're not clever.

Sudden emotional investment because I'm killing this guy off. Or "Aww he was going to retire Wednesday too..."

"Red Herring" ...sorta. Basically that's the person who they are trying to convince you is guilty, only to do the turn-around. Yeah... I always get a bit annoyed with the "OMG it couldn't be that guy" twist.

Yeah, that's annoying too. Super-annoying in fact, because you're left thinking, "Man, that would have been fun to figure out if we had the chance."

It's almost always that guy in every crime show on the air. CSI, Law and Order, etc. etc. all do the same silly shit. It's rarely who you think it's going to be and even more rarely is it a character they've spent any time developing.

not really a plot device, but here's a line that makes me want to simultaneously laugh and vomit every time i hear it in a crappy action movie:

"GET DOWN!!"

just watched the latest bond flick, and it was said no less than 4 times. so cheesy

It is a ritual in our house that whenever Jack Bauer says DAMMIT I also say it while grabbing the dog.

Random Official #1: "I'm sorry Jack, but the guy died before we could torture info out of him."
Jack Bauer: "Dammit Bill, I need that intel."

{Zeke runs for cover}
