Any of you sci-fi junkies read his stuff?

I picked up A Fire Upon the Deep and I'm enjoying it immensely. Far-future space opera in the Asimov/Clarke tradition. Vinge is a mathematician and computer scientist (retired professor of both), and his work is correspondingly "hard" in the techy/sciency sense. The basic premise is that the speed-of-light limitation on travel (and other technological constraints) is location-specific, and these constraints decrease as you move further from the dense galactic center.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass on the recommendation. Enjoy, if you're into that sort of thing.

I've always wanted to read that book. Think I'll go check it out.

I love hard sci-fi. Matter of fact, I think I'll re-read some of the Clarke books again soon.
