I love Anime in very broad sense, ive watched everything Disney released, to Full Metal Alchemist, X:one, Appleseed and some others I cant remember right now. Also pretty much everything that is shown on Adult Swim.

Any other goog movie or series suggestions i should look into?

Macross Frontier, sci-fi/music, good animation, good story.

ToraDora, love/comedy with extremely bitchy female main char.

Clannad/Clannad After Story, school/slice of life drama, basically shit goes wrong and gets resolved through miracles.

Darker Than Black, action/mystery, good story.

To Aru Majutsu no Index, Shakugan no Shana, Fate/Stay Night are all decent anime that fall under action/magic kind of settings, set in modern times.

Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou, martial arts/japanese lore.

Nabari no Ou, ninjas!

Nodame Cantabile, older series. Excellent story, good music.

Out of all those Nodame/Macross Frontier would be my top choices. I also assume you've seen Code Geass, Gurren Lagenn, etc.

If you like random comedy there's, Seto no Hanayome, Lucky Star, and Minami-ke.

Tytania is pretty good too. Sci-fi stuff with some politics/space battles thrown in.

Gundam 00. It's popular, story draws from some current events here and there, mostly lots of cliffhangers though. Can't say its too deep.

I hate Anime.

However, Akira and Ninja Scroll were watchable.

Dating an anime fan, he's gotten me to watch a few. The ones I didn't hate were:

Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist
Azumanga Daioh
Last Exile

And just as a note...he still hasn't forgiven me for looking over his shoulder at one of his shows and then piping up with:

"So let me get this straight...a 6 year old girl has sung a pretty song and that inspired the older military guy to raise his rocket and shoot it and explode all over the wall? Un huh."

I am not an "anime fan" but I really enjoyed Elfen Lied. I even bought the boxed set.

Anime is the nerd equivalent of Harlequin Romance novels for fat chicks and pro wrestling for rednecks.

I didn't recommend some of those because I dunno how harem animes would appeal to Cak. :P Some have good stories like Chaos Head and Elfen Lied, I would say the majority of it is fanservice appeal though.

If we include those though I guess I'll throw in History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. Mostly a martial arts comedy.

I don't particularly like the harem types. Story is king in my book. Though if he were looking for some pretty boy anime, he could try Antique Bakery and Junjou Romantica.

A friend of mine gave me a copy of the Death Note live action movie.

I also like Naruto.

Probably not all that interesting to some, but if you really like Naruto/Bleach/Claymore then I'd recommend the manga over the anime. Naruto has something like 130 episodes of filler and like 129 of them are garbage. onemanga.com is good place to read manga online.

Oh, another series I forgot about is Ouran High School Host Club. Pretty good love/comedy, pokes fun at its own genre with some of the characters.

I am not an anime guy.

I liked princess mononoke (a movie).

I tried to watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann on the recommendation of this forum, and I thought it was mostly retarded and did not finish the series.

I really live "Fist of the North Star". It can be tricky to follow and is a bit weird, but I really enjoyed it.

Akira is required viewing of course, although I'm not sure I ever actually understood it.

Orme, I highly recommend the new (maybe 10 yrs ago) edition director's cut (subtitled of course). Makes a bit more sense, but it's always been a mindfuck. Kinda the point.

My ex wife loved Sailor Moon. I'd rather get raped in jail than watch another one of those fucking godawful abominations.

If you're looking for something comical, give Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu a try. It is equally as hilarious as it is ridiculous.

In all fairness I realize that most Animes are probably based on a story that I am unfamiliar with (like in a manga that I have never even heard of).

I figure that for some of the animes, the original intended viewers might be as excited as we are to see a new superhero movie (any option to see a our favorite characters brought to life or animation).

But for me, all too often I am watching an anime trying to figure just what the heck is going on.

And in some others it just seems like the formula is ...
take one or more school girls (fukus)
add a demon thingy
and iconic talking animal
and some guy in a trench coat with a neat hat
repeat the same basic plot for the show every epsiode making minor changes in bad guys.

I admit there is some bad anime out there. And I admit, it's the bad anime that seems to get the most exposure because of juvenile fanservice bullshit. But there is some downright pretty good shit out there. (And I don't read manga.)

There is anime for just about any genre, and I have favorites in most of them I could recommend depending on your tastes. There are other variables, however, such as being able to sit through a 20 minute episode reading the subtitles.

And what the everliving fuck is this gnoll icon bullshit? God dammit Cak.
