This is an interesting film. The casting and direction was pretty good I thought. But, Harrison Ford and the old lady from part 1 seem completely out of place. They seem a bit fat, tired, and uninterested.

Overall, I thought it was OK, but a bit annoying.

I didn't like how they failed to acknowledge his age. I think I woudl have liked it more if they treated it like Rocky 6.

Either way, not the worse movie ever, but not that good. Ranks on par with Temple of Doom, maybe a step lower.

one thing that really bothers me about Indy 4 is all the tie-ins with toys, kids meals, and such then the movie isn't kid friendly. There is just too much language for me to let my son watch it. We started watching the movie together and I'd let an occasional shit go by, but I had to turn it off when what's her name came out of the tent as swore up and down at Indy. We turned it off at that point and have not watched any more of it. (that and I thought the movie was really bad up to there as well)

Not the best one of the quartet, definitely. It was very formulaic- you get what you get with an Indiana Jones film. But definitely a lot more parts that were just "bleh" than in your typical Jones film.

Of course, having said all of that... most people still saw it in a theatre and own it on DVD. Because, well... it is Indiana Jones :)

Surviving a nuclear explosion...in a 'fridge. A 'fridge thrown how far?

Suspension of belief is one thing, that was just retarded.

Indy4 went down in my mind as the worst movie of the year. Seriously...beyond stupid.

This was just a terrible experience for me. I was at a SQL seminar/training and since my job was footing the bill on everything, I figured I would treat myself to a nice big, digital, fancy theatre ticket for Indy. I would have walked out of the theatre if I hadn't paid so much for the ticket. This movie was near insulting. I believe what frustrated me the most was the poor quality of CGI. If the Shia "George of the Jungle" scene wasn't enough, it looked like crap in today's standards.

George Lucas and Speilburg are suppose to be innovators and they failed!

There were two Indiana Jones movies, and two times that George phoned it in. Maybe #5 will be another Indiana Jones movie.

I've tried to explain this to people in the past and its pretty much fallen on deaf ears. George Lucas himself is a TERRIBLE Writer/Screenplay Writer/Director, however he's a Conceptual Genius. Take a look at all his successful movies and sneak a peek at the writing/screenplay/directing credits. For my argument I leave out the Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope, as it wasn't terribly written and was a huge success...but it opened the door to his other successful films.

Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back
Directed by Irvin Kershner
George Lucas (story)
Leigh Brackett (screenplay) and
Lawrence Kasdan (screenplay)

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Directed by Steven Spielberg
George Lucas (story)
Philip Kaufman (story)
Lawrence Kasdan (screenplay)

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
Directed by Richard Marquand
George Lucas (story and screenplay)
Lawrence Kasdan (screenplay)

Technically Temple of Doom would be here, but at the time of its release it wasn't considered a success in comparison to Raiders or the SW movies...

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Directed by Steven Spielberg
George Lucas (characters and story)
Philip Kaufman (characters)
Menno Meyjes (story)
Jeffrey Boam (screenplay)

You notice a theme on the films Lucas himself didn't actually write or direct. He was involved in the story/concept stages of the projects but left the screenplay and or scripts up to others. The most notable of those being Lawrence Kasdan. He was the one who suggested to Lucas while writing the screenplay for RotJ that Han Solo should die (as a martyr for the Rebellions cause). Harrison Ford actually agreed with him, but as is obvious Lucas turned down the idea. While he did briefly return to the Star Wars Universe to help write the story for the Shadows of the Empire N64 game, "Internet Rumors" claim that Kasdan refused to come back for the Prequel Trilogy because of the large portions of the back story which he called "absurd and completely unnecessary" (IE Midochlorians).

Like I said, Lucas is a great conceptual thinker. If you put him in a room with some really good writers and artists and let him just throw out ideas, he can be great. Everything gets all mucked up when he tries to be "The Man" and do it all himself.

That much is true. Some of the ideas he has come up with have become staples of the Sci Fi genre. I think what helped everything look good on paper was a group of other people filtering out what is nonsensical on the screen. The 'virgin birth' of Anakin for one.
