Wow.. just, wow... very beautiful yeah the olympics are sports.. but the art of the ceremony is amazing

If they end up putting this on demand on your cable network, check it out if you didn't watch when it originally aired.

The part I've seen (the tai chi demonstration) was absolutely exquisite. Taking politics and current events out of it, I've always gotten a kick out of Chinese culture and art. But yeah, I have mixed feelings on it.

Unless Austriana has a secret hatred for China I'm thinking its the same reason the rest of the people in the world didn't want China to host.

Because they're chinks and have been the embodiment of the antithesis of the Western World since before the colonial period?

I wish I could have went to the Olympics in China this year.

Tech center has a ton of old 14 inch CRT monitors, old P2 motherboards and random electronic junk that I'd have loved to load on a garbage scow and take over there to sell those fucks so they can continue to pollute themselves into oblivion.

What's the point in boycotting the Olympics? It won't change anything besides you missing some good sports action. Maybe it makes you feel better, and that's fine I guess, but there's really no point unless you are a Nielsen family, and even then it probably doesn't matter. :p

You're more likely to miss sappy cutaways about the athlete who lost his big toe in a habitat for humanity accdent than you are to see any good sports action.

That, or more of the nightmare that is Bob Costas. The guy isn't even that old, so just waiting for him to die isn't a great option.

NBCOlympics.com coverage is so good, that's the way to go. Was able to watch the mens relay with none of the bullshit, very exciting (high video quality, too).

I tend to prefer that we keep politics out of the Olympics as much as possible. Regardless of how we feel about whatever country is hosting it in a particular year, I like the idea of everyone putting their differences aside and competing in a more cooperative manner for a few weeks.

Whatever dude, there's been a lot of good action. Watching Michael Phelps blow everyone away, watching Misty Mae and Keri Walsh own everyone in volleyball, watching the "Redeem" team crush every team (we'll see about Spain), hell even the gymnastics competition was interesting (the girls :P)

I'm looking forward to some track and field, and I love the fact that I can pretty much watch anything I want on the internet, since they skip most of it during prime time hours. I've never seen olympic fencing before, for instance, it was pretty cool (and then 5 minutes later I realized how boring it was, hence why it's never shown)

I love gymnastics, swimming, diving, basketball, but track amd field are what the olympics are all about for me, my favorite being the 400m. Looking forward to watching some ridiculously fast people.

Do you think Israel should never be allowed to host as well?

I won't pretend to be an expert on such matters - but I'm sure you knew my answer before you posted, knowing my support of Israel. :p I won't say that Israel is perfect - I don't know of many countries that could be considered so. But Israel's human rights record is better than China's, they haven't supported the Sudanese government in Darfur, to my knowledge, and the press isn't restricted.

Despite opinions on Palestine vs. Israel, I'd still say Israel is leagues ahead of China.

(BTW, I couldn't resist watching some of Michael Phelps, but I really didn't watch anything else. And I know my lack of watching changes nothing - especially because my mother watched TONS of it...but it's still a matter of principle.)
