20th Century Fox has yet to outright confirm the news, but it looks like a live-action version of Japanese animation opus and jazz spectacular Cowboy Bebop is on its way. Keanu Reeves is rumored to be attached to the project as leading man Spike Spiegel. Apparently, the project has generated so much buzz in the nexus of Rupert Murdoch's empire that it's been fast-tracked for a 2010 release.

Sweet, another opportunity to play the Keanu Reeves drinking game*.

Take a drink everytime he says "Whoah". :partyman:

*This game is also known as the "Joey Lawrence drinking game".

I hate all those faux-Hollywood insider catchphrases and words. "Attached to a project" and all that other bullshit lingo.

Faggots.

If they really focus on Spike, it will be the biggest pussy getting movie of the century. Chicks will be sobbing it up like mad at the end.

I really don't see them doing that tho. You can't really introduce every important Bebop character and go into their personal backstories in 2 hours. The series barely even covered it.

One of my favorite series. I don't think it's movie worthy just for being so complex. I am interested in what they come up with for a movie soundtrack tho.

That's a problem with a lot of good anime, you can't cut a series down to make a good movie without chopping tons of important shit out of it.

On the other hand, you could take the major story arcs in a series and turn them into several good movies.

Film the whole thing, and release them over the summer season one month apart. Own the Box Office.

They already made a Cowboy Bebop movie, it was pretty good.

You'd have to throw money at it like no tomorrow to make a series of blockbuster hits. Anime is still rather a niche market in America, and I don't think you'd get enough turn out on name alone to really justify going at it with the serial mindset.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking properly. I had forgotten that good movies don't necessarily mean success. It has to be a sequel of a remake or some shit.

I was being a little snarky in that post. In all honesty, though, Cowboy Bebop is a good anime, but I don't see the OMG Leetsauce! that most people rave about it.

Perhaps it's because it's one of the best -dubbed- animes out there, and since there are so few good dubs, it stands out to the people who can't/won't watch subbed anime.

I dunno.
