ET breaks the news that comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business, and he had just finished his last HBO special in March, "It's Bad for Ya."

A terrible lose for the entertainment industry and for angry/pissed off guys everywhere...Rest in peace.

Seriously.
My only consolation is that I saw him live 3 or 4 years go and had seats so close I could have bonked him with my car keys.

Me too. My only complaint was the material was stuff I had seen before (nothing really new). But that's been true of almost every comedian I've seen, and if I had to sit through old material...well you don't really mind with him. :)

Worst one I ever saw (of a big name) was Louie Anderson, and you cannot believe how bad his teeth are. Ugh.

I think it's because his delivery is so good. It's a 1000 times funnier when he says it as opposed to just reading it, but that's the hallmark of all the really good comedians.

I'm really bummed about his death, the 7 words you can't say is one of my favorite bits ever.
