Haven't seen any discussion about this one yet. Next year they're releasing the first offshoot of the X-Men trilogy, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine, set 17 years before the time of the first X-Men movie.

Of particular note, "Van Wilder" star Ryan Reynolds will be playing the part of Deadpool.

Image

Taylor Kitsch ("Friday Night Lights", "Snakes On A Plane") will play Remy LeBeau aka Gambit.

Image

Lynn Collins ("Bug", "The Number 23") will play Silver Fox.

Image

Liev Schreiber ("Scream", "Sphere", "CSI") has been cast as Sabretooth.

Image

Dominic Monaghan ("Lord of the Rings", "Lost") will play the part of Blackwing, aka Beak.

Wait, what? Beak? I haven't had time to read the comics since March O7 but isn't Beak a relatively new character? Did they retcon him into some Wolvy history?

Yeah, I agree. At least until I see the movie and find out what the storyline is. I'd much rather strip out deadpool, gambit, and beak and throw in Maverick and (what was the black guy? Wraith? I think that's it.)

At least that what my comic nerd is telling me.

Would be better if it was about Wolverine's journey through the sordid world of arm wrestling for money. Could be a truck driver, with a kid he no longer has custody of. I'd pay money to watch that movie, or at least one that's very much like it.

wasn't there enough wolverine in xmen 2 and 3 to satisfy this need? i can't imagine the movies' sparsely written version of wolvie saying "damn" a lot being interesting enough for at least three movies (which this will inevitably be)

Wolverine (as played by Jackman) is a very entertaining hero.

Adding Deadpool (as played by Reynolds) to the mix will make this a win. I can't wait to see him break the fourth wall in cinema, heh.

The series jumped the shark with whatever the last X-Men movie was called.

Jackman is actually a pretty good actor. Too bad he's typecasting himself.

The $234,000,000 it made says otherwise.

You're right.

It made a lot of money, therefore it was a good movie.

Increased revenue over the previous two films is a clear indicator that it has not declined in popularity as you stated.

Jump the shark refers to quality, not popularity.

It's both actually, and quality is far more subjective than popularity.

I will agree that the X-Men movies have a huge number of characters. Luckily, most of them are cameos as opposed to getting much coverage in the storyline.

I'm sure that's how this movie will be as well. There isn't enough time to develop the stories for 10 characters in a 2 hour movie. They're simply racking up the talent to spice up the picture, and to give the comic book geeks something to get excited about.

I seem to recall one of the most common complaints about Spiderman 3 was the fact that there were 3 villains, and how none of them were ever developed properly (a sentiment I actually agree with).

That I can agree with; although I enjoyed Spiderman 3, it was one of the biggest disappointments I've ever had from a movie.

Honestly, comic movies could probably take a cue from the comics themselves. Fuck backstory. The movie is about Hero1. It's his story. At most, give a little info on main villain of the day. Save the in depth background of others for their own movie.

Since Silverfox and Sabertooth are in the mix, and given it's 17 years in the past, I expect some Weapon X spin. Deadpool will be a cameo at best, Give people a taste for the nonsense and see if it will be a hit for the fans or just another JarJar. Beak, well, you always need a sacrifice. Hope he dies.

As a huge fan of Daredevil as a kid, I think I can safely say that the movie adaptation was the worst thing I have ever seen as far as comics-to-movies (or even video-games-to-movies) goes.

Fyi, if you go to IMDB and do a search for "x-men origins", 2 movies come up.

Not sure if anyone is aware of the other one or not ;)

Back to Wolverine, however. Deadpool was one of my favourite comic villains back in the day, and so I'm looking forward to seeing smartass Reynolds pulling off Deadpool's witty sarcasm. Should be good.

they really need to scrap this idea, and pull a hulk by redoing X3, im sure we'd all be fine pretending that it never happened.

I think by looking at the trailer its pretty cool. I hope they'd do an X4 and have sinister or apocalypse in it though. Maybe get one going with cable
