It's pretty funny the pop up GM messages Mythic has going when they ban gold spammers. I think I saw them ban about 5 dozen spammers last night on Azazel.

Yeah, some of them are hilarious. They'll change them between factions, so on my dark elf it says they were boiled in oil but on the orc it says that a squig sat on them.

That's great that they are taking such an active role. Hell what was it, a month ago that we still had gnomes raining in IF spelling out gold sites?

A more visible role, not neccessarily a more active one.

Just drawing that distinction.

They actually added an image to the front page of the Herald tracking the number of gold sellers banned:

754 is a pretty good amount for less than a week.

World of Warcraft will have banned more accounts for selling gold than Warhammer will ever have active subscriptions.

I don't typically do this but I don't understand why you keep doing crap like this towards Warhammer (and other things). Is it insecurity that it's tearing you apart? That people actually like something besides WoW? I assure you, there are still a lot of WoW fanboi's in the world and there will be plenty of indifferent feelings toward any MMO's.

The bottom line though, is you are entitled to your opinion and to say whatever you want. However, there is just a total lack of consideration and at this point you just being spiteful and annoying. If you want to pick a fight with Givin, I’m sure he'll give you one. If you want to rub something in the Lanys Warhammer community's face then move on.

I'm just tired of seeing derogatory posts that are totally irrelevant to the game. There are few people enjoying this game that are sharing their info and experiences. If you want to join in on the fun, I’ll be the first to invite you but, if you are going to continue to drop these remarks, then considered yourself ignored.

It's not derogatory. I don't even like World of Warcraft. Haha. People just act like WoW does nothing about the gold spammers.

Post subject:  Re: Banning gold spam

Nobody acts like that. Where did you see anyone say anything to suggest that WoW doesn't do anything about gold spammers? The closest you'll see is "Hell what was it, a month ago that we still had gnomes raining in IF spelling out gold sites?" and that's the simple truth. Yes, Blizzard works to get rid of gold spammers. Yes, it helps. No, it's not enough. Announcing bans globally in Warhammer is not enough, either. You should be able to right click on a name and report it for spam like you can do in WoW, for instance.

2nd reply. The implication here is that Blizzard is NOT taking an active role. So, I stand by my original post. Shrug.

Yeah its pretty bad in EQ, they spam public channels and even have a bot to send you a tell.

There grammar is great though.

"You will pleasantly surprised friend, you receive platinium in the cheapest in norrath!"

I got one gold spam tell in Warhammer so far. It was funny because I was like: "Damn, already?!?" But, I just hope it does not get as bad as WoW. The game is soo young, and the spammer dont waste time I see.

I'm some kind of freak or something in WoW. I've been playing since vanilla beta and I seriously could probably count the number of gold seller whispers I've received on my 20 digits. Yet I hear people all the time talk about how it's some pandemic of whispering madness, that they can barely play the game because they get so many whispers, so much purple text on their screen is ruining the game, etc etc.

I dunno what to make of it.

Post subject:  Re: Banning gold spam

Anyone who said it ruined their game was just looking for stuff to bitch about. It's a tell, oh no! It's in trade chat, oh no! It's sucky, but hardly game-breaking. heh

Post subject:  Re: Banning gold spam

Especially in Warhammer... I don't catch half of the communications in the chat screen. Say, NPC, quest, etc. are all white and i'm too wrapped up in other things to really worry about it. However, Scenario, party, etc. are nice an bright. I just need to tinker with my UI period.

The GM Spam errrr... pop up in the middle of the screen when I PVP is much worse than the gold spammer tells. Give me a "filter lower than lvl 6" chat option and I will be happy.

See, that's what I'm talking about.

Either I was just really lucky or some other folks were really unlucky, or....I dunno. 5 in one hour? I might see that in a freaking year.

Mythic has a 100% No Tolerance Policy toward Gold Farmers/Sellers/Spammers. The funny thing is, since there is currently no Free Trial for the game, all the accounts they're banning are $50.00 a pop.

http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums ... p?t=114542

Quote:
2) As of this morning, Mythic had already banned 1500 accounts for gold spamming/selling.

3) As of this message, we are in the process of permanently banning another 2500 accounts from our game, bringing the total to 4,000 banned so far. We hope that today's banning will significantly slow down the number and frequency of spammers for a little while at least.

4000 x $50.00 per Game = $200,000 made in banned accounts (Naturally this is a rough estimate). I find it highly doubtful that any of these companies is making any profit off Warhammer. But they'll keep doing it over and over, which means that Mythic (and EA) are just getting free checks.

On a side note though, there are actually Achievements and Titles associated with adding people to your ignore list.

The Snob - Added 5 characters on your Ignore list
The Reclusive - Added 40 characters on your Ignore list
The Exiler - Added 100 characters on your Ignore list

Yeah, banning accounts is a lucrative business!

Last time Blizzard announced how many people they banned and how much gold they deleted, it came out to some-odd millions of dollars by my math. And yet these people just keep going and going. =O
