Day 1 wrap up.....smoothest launch ever.

I didn't crash once all day (12+hrs straight). No major bugs, no major issues, nothing. The only thing I saw was a few mobs pathing was abit messed up and also a few bugs when you have different people in different scenarios trying to join and group que.

Not a perfect game but its pretty damn good so far. We made it to 14-15's and having alot of fun and challenge doing the chap 6/7 PQ's with one group, some are just brutal. Not much pvp scenaro's at the moment in T2 going on but rvr not to shabby. Haven't checked if they fixed the keep lord's assrape AE.

Aside for a hour long que to get on the server before they expanded the cap I heard basically no complaiments in vent or in chat today. Hopefully they didn't make the AoC mistake and polish the first 20 lvls then not give a fuck heh.

Only head start, and it went very smoothly. Of course, Tuesday will bring a ton more, and Thursday the flood gates will open. That will be scary, but Mark Jacobs seems to have everything under control.

Had a ton of fun. Apparently I ended up against Goon Swarm people, so it was fun smacking them around.

It was definitely smooth but there are a lot of annoying little issues like quests being broken and graphical errors and pathing issues and stuff like that. Many of which, they said they fixed. Other than that, it's not bad. I still don't know if I wanna buy it, I need some bros to hang with.

Dark elfs have a few bad ones. Also some of the red areas that show up on your map are wrong.

So far yes...

I've tried nearly every MMO since EQ1 and by observing the people around me, this is the first time i've actually seen people hooked again. It's really early in the game however, most people I know are in the 10's and not really pushing too hard. Who knows what is in store for everyone post 20's. You can't much info out of the elder beta either due to NDA.

This game has a great foundation, stable gameplay, deep lore, and creative ideas. The PQ's and Tome of Knowledge are great concerpts. If people really get into the RvR scene and WAR continues to polish this game over the next two months, it will be in great shape.

I don't see it knock WoW down any notches but this is different. There has been a void for too long for those who just don't fit into the WoW niche. EQ2, VG, AoC, and others have all failed to answer to call. I can see WAR hitting 350 - 500k subs after the first two months. The reason I say "after two months" is because that is when a reasonable assessment can be made. I could care less if WAR went gold or if it hits 3 million subs tomorrow. I'm curious to see how it holds on to it's customers.

This leads us to the reason I have a lot of confidence in WAR. I think Mark Jacobs "has it". This guy is sharp and he is making good calls. I feel like the game is in good hands and I don't think I could feel any better if Scott Hartsman was added to the team.

At this point it's up to WAR. Unlike other MMO's they actually have a strong starting point and do not have to work so hard on what they should have already released. Don't get me wrong, there are some little things but, nothing in comparison to AoC.

Keep in mind they also have at least 2 other classes "on standby" and more Cities they could add later on down the line, so there is already something to look forward to in the way of an expansion or even as content patches. As a pessimist who likes to think every game will suck and people are fools for thinking any game will be the next big thing, I must admit that I like virtually everything about Warhammer. I like the public quests (who doesn't?), I love the Tome of Knowledge, and I enjoy the Scenarios, even though they seem to be pure chaos (pardon the pun) right now. The graphics are just the right amount of a departure from WoW, which grew on me, to where I actually prefer the style over Warcraft's. I like the way it feels like you are in a war torn universe. There are constantly NPC guards running around doing various things. There are catapults and the like all over the place. There is a better sense of scale as well. Not so much in the size of the zones, but in the landscape. The rolling hills and the big buildings and bridges you'll see are really a sight. All in all, it's a close enough game to WoW so I don't feel lost, but it still has a new feeling to it. I like it more than I thought I would.

The only issues I've seen are the CTD's while in the Elf areas. Annoying as shit.

The only CTD's I've gotten were in the dwarf area, when the first PQ boss would kill you.

Sounds like a smooth launch, which frankly, is to be expected this day and age in MMOs, but there are a few issues. I am not sold on the game either, but hell, it hasn't been widely released yet.

Level 29 atm, and starting to *have to* exp on mobs 4 levels above me. I've been to all 3 pairings areas as well. Since I'm ahead of the curve there's no one to PvP against either. :X At this rate I'm gonna be grinding out the last few levels.

Jox the only problem I see with the game that is going to have a longterm effect is if you're not PVPing, it's boring as fuck. I've got several characters into tier 2 because I'm waiting for more people to be around to pvp with.

It's hard to sell this to people. I think it comes down to a couple of things. Do you play WoW or are you tired of playing it? If you don't play WoW, and you're looking for a MMO, this is a good one. If you played WoW and you are looking for something else, this is a good MMO.

I think WoW is in the phase that EQ1 was in during the golden era. Good games are coming out now but, is it really worth giving up your time and everything you have done. Right now, many people are invested into WoW, so it's not so easy to throw it away just because something else came out, no matter how good. I remember DAoC, SWG, etc. being the same way. It was a good rush in the begining but EQ1 just pulled you back in.

WoW is coming out with a new expansion in November and people have character(s) maxed, friends made, guilds committed to, etc. WAR is a great game with a lot of potential but, it still faces a MMO that already has the hook and most people don't like paying for more than one subscription.

I personally believe WAR is worth it.

When the game forces you to keep playing for another year to hold onto whatever status you have in the game by putting out an expansion that wipes out the value of every piece of gear you are wearing is it worth continuing to play? At least in Everquest raiding gear didn't get surpassed by pug gear every time a new expansion came out.

You need to like PvP. If you played WoW it was their entire plan to keep folks playing was PvP. Only WAR is built on PvP from the ground up. You can jump into scenario's (BG's) at lvl 1. You also level 2 tiers of character level 1-40 for abilities, and then Renown 1-80 for gear. (rank to access, and money to buy, no 14,000 honor pts like WoW)

I got pissed last night getting my IB to lvl 7, there were 3-4 destro killing us dwarf lowbies in PQ chpt 2. Then a guildy said, I did that to destro, it's great exp and renown pts. Then 4 of us lowbies 5-7 brought down a lvl 11, and it was great. (I'm on an open server)

You really need to love PvP.

I got the WOTLK expansion for my b-day. So WAR has until 11/12, at that time I'll likely go check out WOTLK. This may be the first time I carry 2 subscriptions, it's a time issue though more than money.

I think DaoC gave Mythic the experience in RvR they needed, and it's showing in WAR.

I don't think you have to like PVP, per se, to enjoy Warhammer. I think the PVP in Warhammer will make you enjoy it, even if you weren't a fan of it going in. Just like how WoW made questing enjoyable, it would be foolish to say "you need to like questing to like WoW" after it came out. Most people didn't like questing in Everquest because it was done very poorly. Since WoW did it right, people came to enjoy it. Comparing Warhammer and WoW, you can see that PVP in WoW was done poorly (in relation). So I think the fact that they have done it right in Warhammer will allow people who didn't like it so much before to enjoy it even more now.

Joxur, it sounds like you don't want to play the game and are looking for excuses not to play it, so don't play it. It's not that difficult of a decision. Everyone who plays it seems to enjoy it. The only glaring "problems" with the game are definitely not game-breaking (and the game has only been out for 4+ days). A crash to desktop here and there and a few pathing issues seem pretty minor for a game in its infancy. What other votes of confidence are you looking for?

I think he just wants to be sure it's another AoC. The talking heads were all hyping the shit outta that game and it was just a fucking Horizons with a really well produced first 20 levels. Honestly, I don't blame him heh. That said, it really isn't a hard decision, I agree.

AoC had a bad case of the "gonna bes" (I just made that up!). It's gonna be this and it's gonna be that. Warhammer isn't "gonna be" anything. It already is. They haven't really promoted anything that isn't already in the game. Remember SW:G and the space combat, or all of the PVP plans for AoC? Those were all but promised on release and what happened? "It's gonna be cool when it comes out!" There are no promises of keep sieges and stuff. They are already there. There are no promises of PVE end-game stuff. That isn't what this game is trying to be.

While Betamax was the most super awesome thing in existence. I wore out plenty of 8-track VHS tapes but not once wore out a Beta.

If you have ADHD and played AoC for 2 hours before giving up on it, stay far away from Warhammer. AoC had its faults, but it wasn't until later that you began to see the serious faults in lack of content, and frankly some of the PvP fights were actually pretty engaging especially in FFA pvp. In Warhammer, as with DAOC, most of the serious fun will begin at level 40 when RvR takes root.

Nah, you could tell AoC was full of fail right from the beginning. It was only the newness of it all and the hope that it would get better later that kept me going.

Too bad it only got worse.

I'll hold off, then.

I'm skeptical of the "huge keep sieges" thing. If it's a reality in 2-3 months I might pick it up then.

Thanks for the tips! Have fun in there, save me a spot ;)

I saw the game on the shelf yesterday when I was shopping and running some errands. Looks very good graphically from the box screenshots; of course, those are just still shots so who knows how it looks running it. Then again, a lot of first impressions is that graphically it looks solid.

Happy to hear that there is extremely little to no issues with launch. Most launches it seems always have lots of problems, they seem to have done their work on this. I am staying away from MMORPG's personally- finally going back to my 360 and playing some games there. Would still like to go finish up the dozen or so XBOX games that I have never opened, but hard to play an original XBOX game after enjoying the visual treat of a 360 game ;)

I picked this game up from Gamestop yesterday. I'm on the lower end of the minimum system specs for processor and video card but at least I upgraded my memory to 3GB earlier this week. It runs decently on the "Balanced" video settings.

I created a Runepriest on the Tor Achere server, based on the game's initial recommendation. This server seemed just plain dead. I was in the first scenario queue for about 2 hours and it never ran. And I tried to do the first dwarf PQ 3 times. The first time there were two other people around, the next two I was solo. Needless to say we didn't get the boss.

I may just reroll on another more populated server. I'm just trying out the game for the hell of it and not really trying to stick around with any old guildmates, so it doesn't matter which server I play on.

The server queues deter a lot of people from rolling on populated servers. You'd think they would know how many people they need per server to make the game not feel like a ghost town.

By the way, lots of scenarios did not work yesterday.

My friend and I setup and installed Warhammer last night. Everything went very smooth, and the patch took about 20 mins to install. Everything in game was pretty much lag free, and we did not find any issues at all. So far, I would say its the best launch of an MMO I have exp to date.

Now for the game itself...the graphics are about the same level as WoW for the most part. The char models do look a little better, but its not a major difference between the two. We got a WoW feeling as we were playing the game. It refines WoW's ideas and features, and improves on them. I like how the map shows where the quests mobs are etc.

There was a Public Quest where people needed to kill a few waves of High Elves, and then a dragon at the end. I have heard how "amazing" the Public Quests are...I did not see anything amazing last night ;) The one PQ was just a free-for-all event, and my friend and I don't like the way the loot is handled. The game should pick the top 5 people, and then roll for loot. Now, the way RvP/PvP is rewarded will really help to get rid of AFKers tho :) That will be a good thing.

Keep in mind, all we only saw/played up to level 5 content last night. I talked to one of my guildmates after I gave Warhammer a try, and he informed there are other types of PQ's that are a lot of fun to play. I'm looking forward to the quests to come. Since we are talking about first impressions in this thread. I can say Warhammer is a polished game, and looks like it will be a perfect compliment to World of Warcraft. I have no issue playing two MMO's at the same time.

Warhammer might not replace WoW as my main MMO, but it should be something I can have fun with tho. Mythic did a great job on their new game, and the launch was near flawless from what I saw...other than the Balance issues of Order Vs Destruction haha the first scenario was a blood bath, and the Order did not stand a chance against us. They were WAY outnumbered, and could not win even if they tried too. I do hope it will balance out in the next few weeks. We want a challenge in RvR, not an easy win lol

BS! You'll win some and you'll lose some. Can't say that I've ever seen a scenario where one side outnumbered the other in any significant fashion. Most of the time the blowouts I've seen are when one side draws a shitty mix of classes (like 1 healer, or 8 healers and no dps).

It's not until you get to the RvR lakes where you'll see the crazy mismatches, or where you'll be outnumbered and promptly steamrolled.

Queue times for Order on my server are like 30-45 seconds at the most, thusfar. Even through beta, I didn't see scenarios where one side outnumbered the other by more than 2 people. It seemed like I was outnumbered at times, but often when I'd check, I'd actually see more Order than Destruction in the scenario. As Crowde said, the makeup of your raid is pretty important. If a Destruction group is full of Black Orcs, they will be beastly. Likewise, in the early scenarios, sometimes you'll get grouped with a bunch of level 11 people and sometimes you'll get in with a bunch of level 3s with limited abilities, who were bumped to level 8, and that will make a big difference.

As for your public quest experience, I don't see how you could even think people who are AFK would even have a chance (and did you actually see anyone AFK?). It weights your roll based on how you perform in the quest. If you do the most damage/healing, you'll get a bonus added to your roll. And if you happen to be unlucky on your rolls, stick around and try again because you'll get a bonus on top of the original bonus for your roll each time you lose.

Yeah, I said a while back that War looks exactly like a clone of WoW and that the graphics weren't that great and got shit all over. Nice to see someone agrees.

No no...I'm talking about PvP BG haha the way the system is, you can't go AFK like WoW players do now in BG's. I like the way Warhammer bases how you perform and stuff. This is a very good thing...that is what I was trying to say, Neesha

You've got that backwards, Warcraft looks like Warhammer.

True.. if you really get technical Blizzard really borrowed from Games Workshop and Mythic was designing MMO's before Blizzard. However, if you start this little game it all goes back to Tolkkien and D&D. Anyway, I don't see the WoW'ness in WAR, more LOTRO. Blizzard / WoW has such a trademark with their color schemes (which led to the D3 uprising) their artistry is unique and nothing really "looks" like them.

WAR looks like Games Workshop with today's MMO engine standards.

At least there isn't too much brown. :P

Bingo, Warhammer looks like Warhammer. In years past you could find articles with the original Warcraft creators that stated they took inspiration from Warhammer. I'm sure they're still out there, but I don't have them handy.

Artistic styles are by and large different, but Blizzard/WoW has perfected the MMO to a point that anyone coming in future years will be considered exact clones. I mean, the Interface looks literally EXACTLY the same. Like I said, art styles look different but as far as ambience, zones, quality of textures, WoW and Warhammer are pretty much along the same lines.

The interface works, so why not use it? It's not always necessary to reinvent the wheel if you don't have to. And correct me if I am wrong, but you haven't even logged into the game, have you? If I am correct, how can you comment on the ambience? Some things may look the same, but as you move around in Warhammer, you don't get that "this is soooooo much like WoW!" feeling. I don't, at least.

In regards to interface and even looking at the overall appearance and layout of zones, how are any of them very different?

Besides, UI's are all modified anyway. Zones are just zones. I guess at this point, where MMO's are not in a mature phase of existence, there are now standards. It's unfair to say anything good, bad, or comparitive to others. It's really all the same. At this point it comes down to the core objectives and gameplay from the first level to the last. That was really AoC's greatest failure, they had 1/3 of a game without any objectives in place. They had great lore, published some great ideas, but they were not there.

As i've said before... we'll see how well WAR and WotLK 2 months after they've released.

Yeah, I have played the game for about 3 minutes altogether. I hate PVP and I don't give a shit about the Warhammer lore so no, the game isn't for me. I never said the game FELT like WoW, I said that a lot of elements are like it.

And further, yes, I made the point Blizzard has perfected a lot of aspects of MMOs and nobody who follows could help but copy their working techniques.

It should be like it, Blizzard was making a version of Warhammer in digital form since the beginning. Warhammer can't be anything but true to itself, if they're similar because they're sticking to the same thing they've done for over a decade, then that's not Mythic's fault.

We'll see when World of Warcraft: Scars of Vel... er, Wrath of the Lich King comes out.

You have zero points to make nor any argument to present. You're just arguing for the sake of doing so. The whole extent of the crap you're trying to instigate an argument with can be said of anything. "Sorry ripped off Monopoly because you travel clockwise while landing on squares. Stop shitposting.

I'm posting from the POV of a guy who hates PVP, and played the beta for a handful of minutes. I'm not posting to start arguments, I'm not arguing with anyone, am I? I never said Warhammer ripped off anyone.
