I haven't even done all the heroics. After work and family time I just don't feel like playing. Rift is an exact clone of WoW though, after playing the beta, just not feeling it either.

I'd play RIFT... but leveling in mmo's feels like a concept that needs to die. It's boring and frankly, doesn't train you or prepare you for what the game is like at max level. I'm not sure I have it in me to do all that work in a game that "might" be good at max level.. but likely isn't. I think the only mmo I will put that kind of time into is SWTOR.

Honestly, the Cata Raiding isn't terrible...problem for me is that we've roughly reached the 2 month mark of the expansion being out and cleared existing content (on 25 Normal mind you). I have 0 desire to do farm Normal or work on Hard Modes until 4.1 comes out.

I'm still up in the air about Rift in general. I want to pre-order it and play it but there are still too many factors about it keeping it at arms length. No one is breaching NDA from the Closed Beta (or Alpha as people have been calling it) so we have 0 idea what End Game will look like weeks before it goes live. Souls are getting nerfed/buffed left and right on both the Event and the Closed Betas, so it's hard to say where they'll end up. And of course there's the "Whose going to be playing it after a month?" question that arises after EVERY MMO is released.

AFAIK they are not planning to lift the NDA on the Alpha testers before release, if ever.

In regards to Rift raiding.... its good. Somewhere in between EQ and WoW but better than EQ2. (At least what i've heard ;) )

They are hard and challenging. You have to know what you are doing and a lot of time it takes just having competent people. You can't just walk into a situation with "any" tank soul combo or healing. You have to utilize your roles and have people properly spec'd.

That's about all I can say.... about what i've heard ;)

Has any decision been made about a server yet? I vote pvp (Reclaimer being the one I leveled on in beta). I also met an old Lanys dood there that played with Mithril Web in WoW. Anyways, what has everyone decided?

A handful of us, mostly old 7ders, are going to be playing together. Haven't picked a server yet but leaning toward Guardians and PvE.

Seven Dreams? I was in the following if I remember correctly...Auxilium, Rising Storm, a semi serious raid guild that I cant remember, Shift, Shard, Something...lasted like a month and imploded, and then Oryx. I will always miss Oryx folks, so many good ones. Not to mention Solanthious and his crazy ass raid / guild chat. The 1% wipes, almost seemed like it was on purpose it happen so often on so many mobs... the only time I remember that happening in Wow was on 10 man Lich King and that was really 11% (but 1% in effect). Some has said there was drama, which maybe there was, but for the most part it was just cool people wanting to make stuff dead together.

For me, some of my favorite times was the Vision / Fallen drama in general chat and on the lanys boards. The kill stealing stories, and raid train kills... I mean, it wasn't me and I wasn't involved, but I was a spectator and sided with this side or that as the story unfolded. Those guys that were godlike to me during that time was some of the closest guildmates later. Not to mention the legend that was conquest and the epic Sleeper incident and subsequent ban. Everyone knew who Conquest was, no matter what server they played on in EQ and a lot of them knew lanys because of that.

Side note, when we were raiding in WoW and would pull some shit that looked a little exploitish, I would always comment that it was the lasso/conquest way.

I don't know about mages, but rogue I chose Assassin/Blade Dancer/Riftstalker and it felt quite a bit like my WoW Rogue.

We have decided to go Briarcliff from Lotham due to the competition. Waring, why don't you bring your guys over with us... technically our guild has a lot of old 7D'ers. Duty, Xolar, Zero, and myself. Not to mention a few other guys from Lanys possibly.

I know Briarcliff is a PvP server but technically, even PvE is somewhat a PvP server.

Anyone from Lanys has and open invitation to join up with us even if its to get your feet wet and then move one. Our guild has played since the first phase of beta and have been doing pretty well. It's a solid game and enjoy it. The only thing would make it better would be adding some more friends to the list.

Well we've been talking about it the last few days and the vote has been pretty overwhelmingly PvE, a good number of people have no interest in PvP at all, and with the BGs being cross server anyway the PvE looks fine to me.

We're going to be setting up on the Belmont server. We've got about 15+ (I know surprised me too) people lined up atm.

Edit: Changed our mind on side, going Defiant.

I'll throw my hat in with you guys as well. Probably going to roll necro/lock/dom. Or maybe ranger.

Muligan,

I will see you guys on Briarcliff I suppose. Reclaimer was cool and met some neet folks on there, but would like to run with Lanys folks agian. What faction on Briarcliff? Guild name? I like the idea of world pvp and danger at every turn...not to mention i always wanted to shank the cow druids stealing my herbs in wow. Other wise, this reply could have been to Warring :).

guardian or defiant, I'd lurk around server forums now that there up and see what majority on belmont seems to be going, if we do minority faction its less people starting off in newb areas, but like I said I'm cool with either side.

We are rolling Guardian, Briarcliff...

Our guild... Looks Matter (ha!)

Waring... 15+! That's just great man! I wish our guys (including myself) wasn't so diehard PvP, would absolutely love to run with you guys. If you guys reconsider, we would love to have you guys, and even take over some of the leadership. I'm a little busy to run everything so i'm hoping Duty will pick up a lot of the slack.

Great to hear from you guys. Maybe we can organize everyone from Lanys to two choice... If you want PvP come hang out with us, PvE... see Waring.

Best of luck on Belmont, we'll keep our eyes out for you in Warfronts!

Yeah, im debating defiant myself. SOOOOO many people starting off in one spot. Good thing is later on there are more pick ups blah blah. bad thing is when you que for pvp the ques are going to be teribad. Got about 14 hours to decide lol.

The PvP queue are not server specific I think.

That said the guild (Brotherhood of the Spider) will be playing Defiant on Shatterbone.

Damn it, so many going carebear :(. The Briarcliff forum chatter has been pure hilarity so far. I will pop on Belmont to holla for sure...esp if the queues are as long as I expect them to be on Briarcliff for a week or three.

I'll probably stop in and say hello at some point but i'm a PvP addict now. :(

Jesus, I sleep in just a little and have an 90min que just cause I started 3 hours late...

edit:
So went shopping came back and could get in. Litterly 10 seconds from spawning in newb area I get a message splashed, server restart in 10 mins. Fuck hope It's not another 2 hour que.

edit2:
4hour que. lol... Sweet it recalculated down to 13 mins.

edit3:
Recalculated to 90 mins. Thurs. even, I don't think I'll be playing much till after the weekend.

Apparently Briarcliff has the worst queues.

Oceanic peoples have chosen it and some Eve guild 'goons' or something.

Going to start a list of...

Things I wish I knew when I started:
1. Eth racial sprint ability will not stack with mount, it just kicks you off it.
2. After you pick you main class (Warrior, Cleric, Rouge, Mage) You pick 3 sub-classes during tutorial. Later on you can unlock the rest of the subclasses. No need to fret too much about choice beginning.
3. You can have 3 craft/gathering skills. Of crafting ones each primarily use 2 gathering skills for needed resources.
4.

Having lots of customers = healthy... so in one sense you're right.

Not anticipating demand and not being able to scale = not healthy

But hey, it's a good problem to have in an mmo, that's for sure. ;)

At least if you're actually able to get on there's almost no lag, just vast hordes of people riding 2-headed turtles.

Most of the bitching is knee jerk horseassery. There are a handful of servers that do have stupid long queue times, but thats more due to giant superguilds choosing them as their home and the plethora of tagalongs they bring with them. Briarcliff for example was the choice for about 6 giant groups of people that I can think of off the top of my head.

There are plenty of servers with reasonable queues, or none at all even tho they show full on the status screen.

I will say, however, it's a shitty shoehorn fix to bring a couple servers up at a time and not have a large amount of servers up at launch in anticipation, especially when it's obvious you had a crazy amount of pre-orders the week before. The game is 100% playable once you get in. No lag and you really don't feel rushed or fucked over on quests. I was able to get in and make level 12 in no time.

Things will settle down. The entry rifts are pretty boring as shit right now due to 100,000,000,000 people hitting non elite mobs and they die in less than a second but meh.

Is that the standard UI? Just a FEW similarities to the WoW UI? =p

Even the quest updater in the same spot!

Had no problem on Belmont by the time I finally got my computer ready, downloaded, and patched... oh, say, 3am.

Thems some wimpy rats to slay the first few levels.

Dude, it's pretty much a direct copy of the default WoW UI with shinier widgets.

I'm not saying the WoW UI was 100% original, but damn.. .there's next to nothing original about the Rift UI.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I'm not complaining, really. The default WoW UI is a lot more functional than many other MMOs, even if I do personally dislike it immensely.

Yeah, I can understand that. Though, if I remember correctly, a lot of the things in the Blizzard default UI were introduced by player mods, and many of them retained near identical appearance as the player mod, which I guess is because they figured if it wasn't broken...

People who want Rift to work think the UI is great. People who don't give a shit about Rift see the UI and think it's silly that they didn't even try to make it unique.

I noticed that on their general forums (which is odd because only pre-orders can post there.) A lot of people seem to only want change for the sake of change.
