All things MLS and Euro/Latin World Soccer as well.

I'll be at the LA Galaxy home opener tomorrow and it should be a good game against New England I'm thinking! I got real nice center field level seats, and I plan on going to a good amount of Galaxy games this season. Might pick up season tickets, but I'm not sure yet tho.

Only 17 games a year is not bad, but the stadium is about 45 mins to an hour away WITHOUT normal LA traffic haha. But, it might be something fun to do every sunday and stuff. I can't make the games during the week tho.

"The 2011 Major League Soccer season is the upcoming 16th season for Major League Soccer in the year 2011. The Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will make their MLS debuts. The 34 game per team regular season will start on March 15 and end on October 23.

Each team will play a balanced schedule; playing every team twice: home and away. With the two new clubs being based on the west coast the league announced on 28 January 2011 that Houston Dynamo would move into the Eastern Conference.

Further, the Kansas City Wizards rebranded as Sporting Kansas City and moved into their new stadium at Village West in Kansas City, Kansas.

What a game of called back goals tonight! 3 because the players were offside, but damn it was still a very good game.

Here are the recaps from the LA Galaxy game today:

The Galaxy played like shit last night. The game was over in like the first 5 mins. RSL wtf owned the midfield and great defense until a small mistake cost Salt Lake a goal.

4-1 was a final score. This Sat I will be at the game, and I hope LA plays A LOT better on home field haha. It's interesting because the Galaxy have never won a game at Salt Lake. They have lost 10 meetings in a row there. Someone has LA's number I tell ya ;)

If you don't have Direct Kick and want to watch some out-of-market games, specifically if your LA games aren't always televised, you should look up MatchDay Live, which lets you stream almost all of the games (non-ESPN games and non-local Fox Sports/Telefutura). I connected my laptop to my home theater setup and watched Portland play badly on Saturday on the HDTV. Pretty cool stuff, finding the right bitrate is key and the picture isn't as good as my cable provider, but for $40 for the year (price expires today, goes back to $80) it's a great deal.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into Direct Kick and see if I might like it or not.

Post subject:  Re: Official 2011 MLS & World Soccer thread

Direct Kick for me is a little too expensive at $80 to be worth it just to watch my team on the road and the occasional midday Saturday game. MDL at the discounted $40 does the same thing with a little extra wiring.

Post subject:  Re: Official 2011 MLS & World Soccer thread

That is why I'm going to look at what will be televised for the Galaxy. Some times the games are delayed because of other sports are happening. I want to check to see if all games are on TV or not.

I agree $80 bucks is a tad much indeed.

Big lose at FC Dallas yesterday. After a long weather delay, LA was unable to win or keep the game tied. Anyway, I will be at the home game this Sat hoping for a big win against NY!

Yeah it's been really hard to like Barcelona in the last two rounds of this league. Hopefully they can actually play soccer against United instead of the same theatrical crap we saw in the semis.

Yes it should be a very good game indeed. I have been watching the Champions League games, and they have been good so far! The final will be a blast I'm thinking. I'm thinking Barcelona will win it myself. We will see in the near future

Look at the recaps of the Galaxy game and the AMAZING save by Ream on an empty net...robbing Donovan of his second goal of the night. Epic stuff indeed and a great game of soccer as well.

Henry, Donovan trade goals in entertaining 1-1 draw

Real Salt Lake wins today, but lose Morales tho.

Despite win, Morales injury leaves RSL little reason to cheer

Dallas signs Brek Shea through 2015, after which time he'll get bought by a big European club. Still a big win for my dudes. Speaking of big wins they beat Toronto (lol) on a dubious penalty in front of eight people.

So at the rate we're taking injuries, the Seattle Sounders will be unable to field 11 people by July. This is not our luckiest year.

Author:  Tranthas [ Mon May 16, 2011 9:28 PM ]
Post subject:  Re: Official 2011 MLS & World Soccer thread

Yeah, but the league table is a fraaaagile thing right now. One game could put the team in 6th place in the Eastern Conference in a tie for #1, and two games could do the same exact thing for the West. And that's with 2/3 or more of the season to go.

I swear to God, Erik fucking Friberg is the absolute worst thing to ever happen to the Seattle Sounders. He's going to keep us out of the playoffs, marking the first year we've only had a regular season.

Post subject:  Re: Official 2011 MLS & World Soccer thread

I like watching LA play, but I'm not really hoping for them to win; I just like how they bounce back and forth between the "Gary Payton's Sonics" where the whole team is really just waiters and butlers for Landon Donovan and David Beckham, and the really incredible "They're Basically Telepathic" way they work together when either one or both of those guys is missing, or they have a third star (Edson Buddle in the most recent case).

Fuck Seatle and the ref who gave a bullshit second yellow to David Ruiz for diving, a foul which had gone uncalled in the previous 60 minutes by both sides. It was 10 v 12 for half an hour.

Also it was like watching a football game - five seconds of things happening and then a whistle, and two minutes of standing around waiting for play to resume.

Dallas beats Toronto twice in two days in Champions League play, gets credit for one win.

Author:  Tranthas [ Sat Aug 27, 2011 2:35 AM ]
Post subject:  Re: Official 2011 MLS & World Soccer thread

I have to point out that the ref is not actually Seattle's fault, and that the professional, Ender-like thing for anyone to do in that situation is to be gracious before and after battles, but use every advantage you get during them.

Also, if David had committed said foul and been carded for it, your argument would make sense -- but these two things (an act that a ref does not believe is a foul, and the same act grossly pantomimed when it did not in fact happen) are distinctly different, in that one is an act of mild violence against a player and the other is an act of fraud against a referee.

Post subject:  Re: Official 2011 MLS & World Soccer thread

OK. He called 41 fouls that game, more than twice the average in his eight-game MLS career (and more than twice the league average at the start of the season), and has given out red cards to losing sides in 3 of his 8 matches. I don't really care at all about anything you said because it's ridiculous, but when no fouls are given for simulation for 60 minutes of game - with plenty of instances on both sides, and none specifically of Daniel Cruz - giving a second yellow for the first called infraction is kind of uncalled for. Dallas was up against 12 men for most of that match and that's really all that matters.

Anyway Dallas gets a ridiculous come-from-behind win last night vs. the Sporks and Best Defender In The League George John isn't going to Blackburn, so it's a good day for me.

Seattle vs. Fire did not go as you planned, Randy.

My favorite part was Osvaldo Alonso practically walking on water from 21 yards to 3 yards, through five guys, to gingerly tap the second goal into the empty net while the goalie watched from the ground.

It was beautiful.

US Open Cup Champions for the third straight year -- for those keeping score at home, that's every year the Sounders have existed in MLS.
