CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - NFL player Chris Henry has died from injuries he sustained during a domestic dispute with his fiancé in northwest Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Henry died at Carolinas Medical Center on Thursday at 6:36 a.m.
Cincinnati Bengals club president Mike Brown said in a written statement, "We are stunned to have learned this news, and our prayers are with Chris."
Brown also said the team's director of security would be arriving in Charlotte on Thursday to "...offer the club's assistance to Chris' family gathered there."
The CMPD received a call around noon on Wednesday about a person who was injured at 1135 Oakdale Road. Police later said the victim was Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Henry in the middle of the road suffering from life-threatening injuries.
An eyewitness told WBTV that Henry hit his head on the pavement and he appeared lifeless.
The CMPD said Henry was involved in a domestic situation at 840 Peachtree Road. Police said Henry's fiancé, Laleini Tonga of Charlotte, got into a pickup truck and drove away.
As Tongo was driving from the house, an eyewitness claims Henry jumped into the bed of the truck. A short time later, Henry came out of the truck and hit his head on the pavement. It is not clear if he was thrown or jumped from the pickup truck.
The CMPD Homicide Unit is investigating the case and no charges have been filed at this time. Sources said Tonga was cooperating with police detectives on Wednesday following the accident.

Obviously, I don't wish death on anyone, but I can't say I'm surprised in the least that this guy died early. Once a thug, always a thug.
