note: I firmly believe that dana white, in the midst of "negotiations" with Fedor, was not going to back down on UFC getting control of the Fedor "name" to market with, thus limited Fedor's options after his inevitable retirement.

Ahh. See, I doubt that was the case at all, considering there are a number of former champs who have gone their separate ways from UFC with no problem finding sponsors or fights. So the idea that the UFC would barter for the sole rights to a fighter's name, when that's not something they've done before, seems a little far-fetched.

basically, if a fighter signs with UFC, and wants them to sell any merchandise (and I mean *any* merchandise), the agreement they have to sign with the merchandising company (which is authorized by UFC) says they have to sign away their likeness rights for perpetuity.

well, that also prevents you from selling anything at UFC events, which I'm assuming is a rather large moneymaker as far as merchandising goes.

it also requires the fighter to have a decent bit of market acument themselves, or the money to hire someone who does.

Which seems kinda odd to me. I can't imagine why neither would want to publicize what they felt their difficulties were. I could understand if one side didn't want to bring it up if they were being hard-nosed about the negotiations, but why both sides?

I'm pretty bummed about Fedor going to Strikfeforce. I wanted to see him show Brock what MMA is about.

Fedor's signing has sparked a bit of a fued between UFC and Strikeforce.

Dana White is pissed.

Strikfeforce responds.

I'm rooting for UFC here just because I'm selfish, and I want to see the best fighters going up against each other.

Huh. Strikeforce is on Showtime? Sweet, gives me another good reason to actually be subscribed to it (Dexter being the primary reason).

- The UFC offered Fedor a 6 fight, 30 million dollar contract. That's 5 mil a fight

- The UFC offered Fedor an immediate title shot

- Lesnar/Fedor would be the biggest PPV in MMA history (we assume), and the UFC offered M-1 Global a cut of the PPV on top of Fedor's purse.

- Fedor was free to wear as many M-1 logoed items as he wished.

- The UFC also relented on allowing Fedor to compete in combat sambo.

Apparently, for good or bad, M-1 refuses to sign a deal unless the UFC agrees to co-promote.

That was the deal offered. There is 2 reasons it will never go through, based on the co promotion problems. 1 Dana is right, the UFC has made this business the way it is today, you can't deny it, why should he give M1 global half of it when it comes to Fedor? The other reason is who owns the UFC. The Fratita's are in the gambling industry, and the background and security clearances that have to be checked before they get into bed with someone would not pass due to m1 being a russian company, who says the mob doesn't own them?

So what's fedor do? Sign with Strikeforce for 700k a fight, and Dana is also right that they are broke. They can't afford Fedor, and who is he going to fight?

It's a shitty situation for fight fans, because as much as I think Fedor is a badass, his best fights were 5+ years ago, and there is new blood to spill, and m1 won't let him.

Shame.
