If no one sets it up by the time preseason starts, I will! I'm not going to get super motivated about football in July though.

I'll definitely be in to regain my championship I lost last year! August is indeed the month to get it started though.

What is funny is that I have Zatronn on my Yahoo messenger listing, and when I logged on yesterday I saw by his name a link to a new league of Fantasy Football. Which is why I presumed since he was starting to get active in it, it would be a good time to post the thread

Heck I was getting emails from ESPN and Yahoo back in April and May about it. But I agree I am not even thinking bout fantasy football until August... but why not have a thread ready to go?

I would assume we stay with Yahoo. I never had any issues with it personally, cannot speak for the rest of you guys...

The league ID is #241802 over at Yahoo for any of you guys who'd like to join that didn't play last year. I honestly don't remember the password though, so this is a moderately useless post! Xan will need to post it or reset it or something prolly.

As far as not having played before, don't sweat it too much. It's not as hard as you'd think. For one, there's tons of information out there if you're the researching sort, and for two, player rankings at most sites have gotten pretty good over the years anyway so you could let the computer put your team together and have a decent shot at the playoffs as long as you pay attention weekly and start people who are playing and not on byes.

Ours is a fairly deep league usually, so it makes the strategy drafting a little different, but it's a good league.


On another note, we should look into an auction draft one of these years. I want to try that. /nod

What's the difference between regular and plus leagues now? I thought Yahoo was providing pretty much all the stuff you used to pay for, for free now. I don't see any difference when I go to the league page.

There are a couple differences, but I mainly wanted the live stat tracker which is now free anyway. Basically we can get a prize for the winner, preferred draft times, a draft kit, and a scouting report.

So wasted money basically but oh well, someone can get a t-shirt or bobble head.

It's erroring out when I try to join using the league ID listed above. Did it change maybe?

The email said it deleted the old league and created a new plus league.

There are a couple of different new things available this year we probably need to decide if we like and want to use.

1. New positions - Defensive Tackles, Defensive Ends, Cornerbacks, Safeties. Do we use them or stick with the regular defense?

2. New Waivers options - You can assign aquisition budgets and people have to place bids on waiver players. Yay or Nay?

Just DEF please, no defensive players.

Having a budget for waiver players but not having an auction league seems pretty silly. Assuming "budget" means a dollar amount.

Just a week designated as Rivalry Week. I can adjust the schedule around to make the matchups different that week, but they looked pretty good right now.

I was gonna join but forgot how much time draft day takes. How are you guys going to handle it?

They'll change anyway as the last few teams join. If Jox/Elessar play, and either of the two from last year who aren't in yet. I'm pretty sure Derf will be in at least. He doesn't read these boards much, but will be in when the season gets closer.

Edit* Three people from last year actually. Drajeck, Kulamiena, and Derfeld are not in yet. We could be up to 16 teams again this year.

Missed this before. It actually only takes an hour or two for the draft usually. We have it on Saturday in the middle of the day so mostly people aren't too inconvenienced. You don't actually have to make the live draft though. Autodrafted teams aren't THAT handicapped, and you can easily make up any lost ground with some careful management over the course of the season. Half of my playoff roster last year came off the waiver wire, and I played in the championship game(though I did get my ass kicked.)

Since we're doing 16 teams, I think we should add more scoring categories to add versatility and level the playing field for anyone who doesn't get one of the top 3 RBs/QBs. Adding in Individual Defensive Players would be nice, but I doubt most of the people here are dedicated enough to want to do that. I think adding in Points Per Reception and doing something like giving QB's -.5 points for incompletions and/or changing passing TDs to being worth 4 points would help.

PPR increases RB depth quite a bit and gives WRs more value, which helps a lot in a big league since WR has the most depth of any position. De-valuing QB somewhat also helps with the overall balance between positions, and is important I think when you consider the difference between a team with Brees/Manning/Brady and the people who end up with Garard/Orton level starters at the other end.

I actually anticipate exactly the opposite problem. 16 teams drafting 3 WR each is 48 starting WRs. That's pretty much every WR worth consideration in the league, before a single team even looks at a bench roster.

I'd be alright with PPR if we start 2 WR, but otherwise they're already going to be a premium position, and I dunno about exascerbating that situation.

I don't mind IDP actually, even though it's not popular. I don't know how to draft it at all, so it would be an interesting challenge to learn some new players. Not strongly for or against it though, either way.

I have no problem with a PPR league. I don't want individual defensive players.

Why does it have to change? I say just keep it the same way we always have- no auction, no PPR, no individual defensive players, etc. Why try and change something that isn't broken- not like we have had major complaints over the years. My only complaint is that half the league seems to disappear and not participate after the first three weeks, so the 16 team league essentially becomes a 8 team league. Makes it harder to do trades, pick up players off waivers, etc.

Well, we had 14 last year and there was less than 300 total points difference between the number 1 and 14 teams. I don't really think participation is our problem anymore.

I have no major complaints, but I'm not opposed to change either. I don't think the "if it ain't broke" philosophy applies completely here. There's a lot of cool options that we've never tried that might be a lot of fun. Playing the same old game every year with no option for ever mixing it up can get old.

Ideally, I'd vote for an auction draft, but I have yet to find a good software option for it. Maybe in future years it will be popular enough for Yahoo to implement something.

I wouldn't mind the other suggestions though. They're not super dramatic. Just don't change us to a 2QB league or something. Heh.

I think our scoring options suck for a 16 player league. They're basically the same as a 10 player league right now, where the settings work because there's much less of a drop off in quality between rounds. With 16 players our rosters are going to end up having a lot of bad players on them and that makes the truly elite players like Brady/Manning/Brees and Peterson/Jones-Drew/Turner much more valuable. Adding in different scoring options allows someone with a bad draft position to actively help their team instead of forcing them to hope they get lucky with gambles on injury risks or rookies in the later rounds.

Removing the third WR slot is actually a good idea, but I don't feel it's necessary to make PPR work. The WR position has much larger tiers than RB or QB and PPR gives a number of fringe posession WRs higher value so there's less of an overall drop off in quality. It would mean WRs get picked higher than they would be otherwise, but it wouldn't change the number of WRs that get drafted. The only problem is that some people might not do the research to understand the difference PPR makes and that would give the savvier players a distinct advantage.

Regardless of whether we end up adding in new scoring options, I think we should definitely lower QB scoring to 4 points for TDs and -1 for INTs. Our current settings give way too much value to the truly elite QBs. Every year it seems like there is one or two teams in the league that make it to the playoffs with nothing but a stud QB. Last year the difference between the #1 WR and #48 WR was less than the difference between the #1 and #10 QBs.

Also, Zatronn, ESPN has free auction drafting now, it's even one of the options for their public leagues. I haven't tried it though so I don't know if it's any good.
