That was a major surprise, but with the frequency of sports stars getting into shooting fights over the last few years, I guess it was only a matter of time.

Edit: From what CNN.com is saying, it looks like it was a murder-suicide.

I don't know what happened. It seems all kinds of messed up. It has the feel of murder-suicide. Still, it is messed up.

My initial feeling was murder/suicide, but you'd think somewhere they would have said "the initial belief is a murder/suicide but we are awaiting details" or something. Instead, it just says multiple gunshots to McNair and one in the chick's head (not "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound"), which kind of leads me to think they are suspecting a 3rd person involved somehow. Perhaps her ex dude friend who can't shut up about it on Twitter.

The gun was found under the woman's corpse. She'd bought the gun a few days before the shooting. McNair had been "dating" (read "boffing") the woman for a few months. Perhaps he'd told her he wanted to end it so he could return to his wife, and the girlfriend decided to kill him and herself?
