So is Brett Favre going to play for the Minnesota Vikings? I was rooting for this last year and I'm rooting for it again. Brett Favre coming back to Green Bay in a Vikings uniform would be pretty cool. Will we really know by next week? I agree with those saying Childress has to stick to the deadline now.

Any Packers/Vikings fans out there?

Packer fan here, and I was a huge Favre fan for many years. Unfortunately, I think his behavior in recent years has sullied his legacy. He doesn't seem to understand that being mad at Green Bay's upper management doesn't mean he has to have it in for the team and the fans as well. A lot of the things he's said, or are rumored to have said, seem pretty shitty for a guy I always thought was pretty classy.

I hope he doesn't come back, because I genuinely don't think he'll play as well as he thinks he will, and I don't want to see him come into Green Bay in a Vikings uniform and get his ass handed to him.

He's a big boy and is certainly free to do what he wants, when he wants, but I am so sick of hearing about it. I don't even watch Sportscenter anymore because I can't stand how much they repeat the same stupid shit over and over again. I'd like to see him play for Minnesota and win a Super Bowl this year just to put a crazy "I told you bitches I could still play!" spin on the whole thing (but I don't think it will happen... name one WR for Minnesota). Anyway, fuck off, Sportscenter. Thank God for MLB Network.

Favre's family has already booked 25-30 rooms at some hotel in Green Bay the weekend that Minnesota goes to play the Packers. I am not saying anything, but...

I just wonder *if* he plays for the Vikings, what kind of reception is he going to get at Lambeau. Plus it puts Minnesota on Sunday night football for at least four more games...

Presumably he'd get a really good reception at Lambeau, unless GB fans are bigger bitches than Favre has been lately.

Wearing a Vikings uniform? I don't care if it's the second coming of Vince Lombardi, you don't get a "really good reception" at Lambeau. Favre's entire reason for wanting to play with Minnesota, if you believe the rumors, is that he wants to beat Green Bay.

Couple that with his ridiculous antics over the past two years... yeah, I don't see the crowd cheering for Favre if he trots out there in purple.

Heh I haven't watched ESPN for anything but games in over a year. Their "Where's Titletown" idiocy last summer was the last straw for me.

The thing I don't get are the people around here that were 100% behind his antics last summer that are saying "omg what is he doing" this summer. It's the same nonsense.

Why be mad at Favre? He was one of the last holdouts against what has turned the NFL into such a farce. No team loyalty, players jump to other teams at a whim. I loved the NFL back when Joe Montana, Dan Marino and John Elway actually stayed with a team for most of their careers. Favre did the same thing, and at the end, just became what every other NFL player is - a greedy fuck. Green Bay fans that are upset with him.. well.. better get used to it. The guy they hate now was one of the last of a dying breed.

the fact that he was supposed to be the last of a dying breed and turned out to be just like every other NFL player is actually a big part of the reason why a lot of people are mad

Most great quarterbacks are franchise players. Favre isn't the "last of a dying breed," he just warranted keeping on the team. You don't expect Peyton Manning to leave Indianapolis, do you? Roethlisberger will almost certainly end his career in Pittsburgh. New England is never going to let go of Tom Brady. The franchise quarterback will be part of the NFL for as long as the league exists.

Hmm, I dunno. I err on the side of gratitude for everything he did for the team and city.

I liken it to Steve Spurrier. As a Florida fan, I loved the guy. Everything he did, from the attitude to the wins. He went to Washington and then to South Carolina, a rival that we play every year, but i still love the guy. I'd shake his hand and buy him a drink with a huge smile on my face if I ever met him.

The whole Favre Watch thing is just stupid. ESPN Reports that Favre says that he is retired so NFL Network will report that the Vikings have not closed the door to Favre returning so ESPN will report that Favre hasn't made a decision. Brett Favre is the sport networks answer to the news network's missing suburbanite girl. As in there would be no story if they would quit bringing it up.

Yeah. Would this be as bad as it is if ESPN didn't have a permanent ticker on their channels with constant updates? probably not.

at this point in his career he is a half season QB...he'll be good till he gets knocked around a bit and then he'll remember, yet again, why he gets the urge to retire every single year.

If I were an NFL team, I'd look to sign him from week 8 on, not week 1.

As far as him in Minnesota, he'd obviously be an upgrade, at least for a portion of the season, over their other options, but he simply doesn't have the ability/stamina anymore to go a full season effectively. He'll get tentative and make more mistakes as the season wears on him, just like every season in the last 5 years. And with at least half his games on turf, he'll probably wear out sooner then later.

And on the last game in the bitter cold, it looked like the only place he wanted to be was at home in front of a fire...he is a liability as cold weather quarterback these days.

As a devout packer fan I've seen him in action his whole career, he just doesn't have the legs or toughness to make it through a whole year anymore. He is exhausted by the end of the year, and it shows.

He made a statement:

Favre says no to comeback with Vikings
Quote:
Favre, 39, called Vikings Coach Brad Childress on Tuesday to tell the coach he won’t be coming out of retirement to play for Minnesota.

“It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made,” Favre told ESPN. “I didn’t feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings, but most importantly the fans.”

And the number of players in the NFL that I am still younger than rapidly decreases. Sucks that I have to hang on to the likes of Jeff Garcia and Mark Brunell.

His response: "I will be 40 years old in October and [was] weed-eating 13 days ago," Favre said. "I wasn't thinking about throwing blocks."

20+ years of playing football and you don't remember that you can't pull bullshit like that? He should have stayed retired the first time.
