Arizona vs Pittsburgh

As much as I want to jump on the Cardinals bandwagon... Pittsburgh is just too good in my opinion. It will be exciting, and closer than what most think. And the Cardinals do have a chance, but in the end Tomlin is going to hold up the trophy.

Pittsburgh 24 Arizona 17

Of course, as with everything, this prediction is subject to change until January 31 :)

I'm too much of a Steeler homer to make a prediction.

I am biased, as a Steeler's fan.

Pittsburgh: 38
Arizona: 17

I'm actually rooting for the Cards. I like the underdog story and the Steelers got their obligatory championship of the decade given to them a couple years back. Heh.

That being said, I think Arizona is going to get destroyed. I'll go with 27-14

I have noticed some coincidences:
You all know about Coach Whiz and Russ Grimm being the in-house candidates to replace Cowher, then Mike Tomlin was named to be the head coach.

The only other time a team finished the reg. season 9-7 was the LA Rams who lost to the Steelers in Super Bowl XIV

Troy Polamalu made the "game clinching" play in the AFC Championship for the Steelers to go to Super Bowl XLIII. Polamalu wears number 43.

Not a fan of either team, but can't bring myself to root for a team that is 9-7 and 6 wins came against

St Louis, Seattle and SF, just can't do it

Pitt -34

Arz- 10

More numbers...

Number of wins vs teams with .500 or better winning percentage:
Arizona: 5 (three in playoffs)
Pittsburgh: 9 (two in playoffs)

Common opponents:
@Washington, Dallas, NY Giants, @Philadelphia, @ New England
Arizona: 1-4 (total combined score: 103-180)
Pittsburgh: 3-2 (total combined score: 96-65)

The last three Super Bowl winners (Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, NY Giants) all played in the Wild Card round and beat a team (Seattle, Chicago, New England) that did not play a Wild Card game.

where the regular season stats get screwed up is somehow Fitzgerald has managed to kick his game up a notch in the playoffs, which I wouldn't have thought possible but it's happened

Sounds like this heavily favors Arizona and not Pittsburgh...

yes it does, also take in consideration that the NFC (not teams, the conference) has not won back to back Super Bowls since 1996-1997 (Dallas XXX, & Green Bay XXXI)

more numbers... (slow day in the office)

Since SB XL (I don't have break-outs from before then) the team with the higher opponent's winning percentage (reg. season and playoffs combined) have won the Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh .534 over Seattle .452
Indianapolis .534 over Chicago .452
New York Giants .551 over New England .497

This year:
Pittsburgh .534
Arizona .516

Everyone is saying Arizona is a fluke and that they stand no chance. I think they are peaking at the right time, just like the Giants did last year. Everyone says the Steelers will stomp the Cards out of sheer principle, just like everyone said about the Patriots last year against the Giants. I think if there is one lesson that we have learned out of last year is that the "best team" does not always get the W at the end of every game.

I know I am in the minority in this, but I think the Cards are going to rise to the occassion this Sunday leaving the fans and the teams that had way better records in complete shock/digsust.

Cardinals - 31 (and I almost want to say 34)
Steelers - 21

As a Rams fan, I've been hating on Kurt Warner all the way here, but I'm jumping on the wagon now. Go Cards!

I'm not sure this year who will win. Looking at the teams objectively the Steelers have a huge advantage on every statistic. But, I have always felt that once you hit the playoffs coaching and desire counts for far more than talent. Steelers have 'one for the thumb' but Whisenhunt & the Cardinals have so much more to prove...

Score: 27-24
Winner: Steelers, maybe.

it is "one for the other hand"

I am a huge Steeler fan. This Cards team worries me. I think the score will be 34-14 Arizona.

I hope the Cards win. I still don't think they will. I'm reasonably enthused about this Super Bowl though. It's one of the more interesting matchups that could have come from this set of playoff teams, IMO.

yeah, I was wondering why they had Blue and Green Championship hats. It was the "color scheme" for the XLIII logo so I guess they continued with it on the hat/

Looks like they designed the hat with "put team logo here" regardless who won.
