Dirk has a knee sprain and the dreaded high ankle sprain. With 12 games left and a 2 1/2 game lead over Denver for the last playoff spot (The Mavs are currently 7th) and multiple games vs Denver and Golden State in the next six it looks like they are pretty much out of it.

And the Little General will probably not be back next year because of it.

I just posted about this in the Suns thread but man, who saw this coming? I know they are saying 2 weeks but official reports are "indefinitely."

This is a huge blow to Dallas, and it's sad on multiple levels.

1) No one likes to see anyone get hurt, let alone an All-Star MVP
2) Dallas could end up with 50 wins, and Denver too -- and might not make the playoffs.
3) The Kidd trade has been talked about as being "worse" than the Shaq trade, though the Shaq trade is paying dividends while Kidd is having an immensely hard time in Dallas.

There was a time in the past few years where I could have been glad Dirk wasn't around, but he's not the same as he was last season and neither are the Mavericks. (Obviously.) But now with the Suns new lineup I felt they can beat those Spurs, they can beat those Mavericks, they can beat the Lakers. It'd have been incredible to have gone through them. Now with the chance of Dallas missing the playoffs for the first time in what, 7 or 8 years? Wow, that's just crazy.

Sad stuff.
