NFL Caves
Quote:
NEW YORK — After weeks of insisting they wouldn't cave in, NFL officials did just that Wednesday. Now all of America can see the Patriots' shot at history.

Saturday night's game between New England and the New York Giants on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs, will be simulcast on CBS and NBC.

The Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement after the league announced it was reversing course. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

Yay!

I really, really hate that the cheaters will probably go 16-0.

What does this say to kids? Especially this year with the Mitchell report & stuff?

I'm glad they did that. Does that mean that CBS and NBC will be using their own play by play guys? I can't handle the Gumbel!

Can't honestly answer the poll. On the one hand, I'm happy to see the obnoxious dolphin alumns have to stop the chapagne parties. On the other, I'd rather it be just about anyone than the Pats that breaks that record at this point. I'm just tired of Boston teams I guess right now, because until very recently I never minded the Pats. Still don't hate em like I did the cowboys and raiders in the days of my youth. I just can't muster much enthusiasm for em.

Yes, CC, they will all have their own announcers. And Kula, you're kidding yourself if you think cheating had anything to do with them owning the NFL this year.

I think he just means they're fundamentally tainted, not that it helped them win over the course of the season.

I'm hoping they go 16-0 and lose in their first playoff game.

The way I understand it, NBC and CBS will be airing the NFL Network's broadcast of the game. That means Gumble all over the place. Get ready for the suck.

Yea, I thought I had read that each channel would have their own announcers, but I don't think that's true (and can't find it). I guess I read that Collinsworth was part of the broadcasting team and was thinking he was an NBC Broadcaster since he is on their pregame shit on Sundays.

Not sure what you think is a "Myth" about this but after every season when the last team that was undeafeated lost, I would always see a shot of at least 5-6 players from that team uncorking the champagne at some little party. The most recent was the year the colts went 14-0 (or was it 13-0, too lazy too look it up).

In Dallas they've been showing the NFL Network broadcasts on some crappy local station for the past couple of weeks already.

Really, though I wish I could make a new poll as a reply to a thread because I love polls and I feel limited to having only one poll per thread. Maybe that's something I need to code into my own forums.

Here is the reply poll I would make if I could, anyways. Please fill it in and make a reply with what you choose. Remember to only select one option or you will be disqualified from poll results

Poll: Does the Patriots winning a perfect season predict a win for the American Forces in IRAQ?
Option 1: Fucking Shit go Patriots Go America We will win it ALL this year in 2008. [ ]
Option 2: Patriots will never win a perfect season and we will never win Iraq, such is our fate. Alas. [ ]
Option 3: Who Cares? Why would you even weant to vote on a poll when I can just speak my opinion in a well thought out and intellectually stimulating post on the Lanys Community Forums Message Boards Discussion Arena. [ ]

The NFL had an agreement with over-the-air stations in each team's market to simulcast each team's games that are aired on the NFL network. The problem was that people that had Comcast or Time Warner Cable could not get NFL Network without paying a premium subscription for it. Comcast and TWC wanted a bigger share of the NFL Network and the NFL Network wanted more subscribers.

The only up side to having Gumble doing Play by Play is hopefully the outcry is such that the NFL Network MUST get rid of him

Well, okay. why does it even have to get a chuckle when I am just trying to point out that surcam is stupid for making lots of polls and that the format he uses for his polls is flawed and useless. I don't understand why people think that anytime I post it is to try and make a joke when I really haven't even tried to do that in a good while since there is nothing that is ever posted on these forums that could inspire me to want to post something funny or interesting. Maybe I go about making my point in a roundabout way that flies over the heads of some people, but really that's just how I have always posted. Why can't I just make dumb, effortless posts and be accepted like the 29 other lanys forums posters on these boards.

Frankly, you should be willing to cut me a breka and shouldn't be an antention whore or try and boss people around. I thought you were an okay but I have seen other people disparage you somewhat in other threads and could never understand where they were coming from but maybe now I'm starting to see it. You're lucky if I don't use a greasemonkey script to phpboard moderator ignore you. apparently going off of cymbalta then having a cold and taking cold relief pills fucks you up becuase I don't even know what's going on right now. I spent all day reading about fucking GURPS a tabletop roleplaying program and I swear that like 12 hours passed in 30 miinutes its crazy. I'm thinking about making a cajun bio-chemist doctor though with infra-red goggles and poisonous dart guns.

I really liked when Mike, Mike, Mike did that one week 1 monday night game. They are probably the best sportscaster team I've seen.

When some you hammered Gumble for the first NFL Network game, I was a skeptical that he was as bad as he was being made out to be. I am no longer a skeptic.

Is it just me or was the Hammons/Collinsworth combo for the Seattle/Washington game a pretty good combo?

The NBC broadcasts are easily the best of the five networks IMO.

Football? There's football on? I wouldn't know, all I saw on Saturday was a bunch of fucking endless commercials.

I love the part where they come back from commercials, have a kickoff, and immediately going back to commercials.

They have been doing that for years... TD, PAT, commercial, kickoff, commercial, three and out punt, commercial...

I was thinking the same thing, I'd enjoy atleast 5mins of football before I watch another damn commercial
