I made the following changes from last year:
1 - Offensive Index is now: ((rushing yards per game/100)*1.5)+(passing yards per game/200)+(points scored per game/21)
2 - Defensive Index is now: ((rushing yards allowed per game/100)*1.5)+(passing yards allowed per game/200)+(points allowed per game/21)
3 - I added .125 to the Team Index for away games in the Strength of Schedule Rating.
4 - I made the above changes to the 2006-07 index, brought those values to the 2007-08 index and added them to the current year index with diminishing returns (+"last year#" * (1/(number of games played this year)). So now last year's value is counting for 1/4th of the total. By then end of they year it will be 1/16th of the total.

Actually Frib, I have taken your suggestion and used it for this week. There are a couple games where the teams are ranked either right next to each other or within a couple of each other. I am going to continue to fine tune the ranking system to see if I can get it to be fairly accurate in producing the actual score differental. (I doubt I will be successful in that)

looking at the current Sportsbook odds and using my calculations the following seem a bit off:
New England -16 1/2 vs Cleveland, I have NE as a 10 1/2 point fav.
Pittsburgh -6 1/2 vs Seattle, I have Pit as a 1 1/2 point fav.
Indianapolis -10 vs Tampa Bay, I have Indy as a 4 1/2 point fav
Denver -1 vs San Diego, I have Denver as a 5 point fav
NY Giants -3 1/2 vs NY Jets, I have the Giants as a 5 1/2 point fav
Washington -3 1/2 vs Detroit, I have DETRIOT as a 1 point fav
Green Bay -3 vs Chicago, I have Green Bay as an 8 point fav
New Orleans -3 vs Carolina, I have CAROLINA as a 6 point fav
Arizona -3 vs St. Loius, I have Arizona as a 6 1/2 point fav

The rest of my numbers are within a point or so of the line. Could be very interesting.

Remember though that their lines include a hedge of forcing the bet to be even. So this adds a subjective measure of what people really think of a teams chances.

Also, compare your weekly rankings and what the score differential predicted to the actuals of the games, this might be telling.

Well, my formula sucks for providing odds. I only hit two of these. Looks like it need more work.

However, I only missed two games straight. (San Diego over Denver and Chicago over Green Bay).

Miami +4.5 @ Cle, my line only has Miami +2
New England -5.5 @ Dallas, my line only has NE -2 (however I think NE will win by 10+, and did you know that NE has covered every week this year)
Cincinnati -3 @ KC, my line has this as a KC pick’em
San Diego -9.5 vs. Oakland, my line has SD -1 (see I still need to do more work here)
Houston +6.5 @ Jacksonville, my line has Houston +3
Tennessee +3 @ Tampa, my line has Tennessee -3
NY Giants -3.5 @ Atlanta, my line has NYG -5
Washington +3 @ Green Bay, I have this as a GB pick’em
Chicago -5 vs. Minnesota, I have Chicago -2
Carolina +4.5 @ Arizona, I have this as an AZ pick’em (I wouldn’t touch this game. Too many ?? players)

Shows a quick difference between the Power Rankings in ESPN compared to your rankings.

It shows that there are only 4-5 teams that are significantly over\under rated in comparison to how the pros do it, so that is pretty good.

The glaring differences can definately be debated:
You have the Lions rated significantly lower than ESPN. (5 spots)
You have the Cardinals rated significantly lower than ESPN (4 spots)
You have the Vikings rated significantly higher than ESPN (4 spots)

These are all mid level tier teams on the bubble of making the playoffs IMO, so I think this will actually get tested as far as how good your system is.
