Opening Day festivities are usually special, at least here in Boston. Not that the games are always anything special, but it is like the start of spring and people escape from work.<

I should get my mom to post, she follows the Yankees around the country for opening days. This year in Oakland.<

Opening day is the start of the journey that we know is baseball season. Summer days with the radio going and your hometown announcer calling the shots. Its the end of winter and cold and shit, and the crack of the bat and the smell of cut grass....those lucky !#@$!@#$ who's parents would take them out of school to watch opening day...from the first rainy, cold games, to the sweltering, sunny mid-summer battles...its not just a start of a sports season, its the start of better days to come...<
>
<
>
The spring training phenoms are looking like world beaters, everyone has the same chance of going to the World Series, boundless hope and optimism are in the air....Joe Rookie is going to win 20 games this year for sure, Steroid Mike is gonna blast 60 HR's, and small ball Billy's gonna bunt and steal his way way to 120 runs....<
>
<
>
Everything is possible....until reality hits at the end of May and its the damn Yankees and Braves in the playoffs again, + some random teams that got lucky with a Free Agent signing or two... and your small market, badly managed team is dwelling the cellar again looking forward to 10 years of 'rebuilding' that never happens....<

Opening day signifies the start of the season, and pretty much is a clean slate for every team. I actually love the hooplah surrounding it and the positive energy coming from even the worst teams.<

Jesse Orosco is throwing out the first pitch to Gary Carter for the 20 year anniversary of the '86 Mets. I cannot wait. Maybe Dr K and Strawman will blow some rails off home plate, too.

Anyway, it would be nice to see the Cubs win it someday, but it won't happen this year -- not with Wood and Prior out. (Way to hurt their arms, Dusty! ) Ah well, with any luck the Red Sox will win the Series again, and the Yank-mes fans will be crying over yet another lost season. Balearic Pureheart<

I'm positive that's exactly what he meant and said, only he said it using the "street" terms. Blowing rails = snorting lines of coke.<

Nothing else to add about opening day, except it's the start of being an asshole for a few months while I jump on every bandwagon for teams playing whoevers team I happen to speaking with at the moment.

Hey, Ark, did you see that Kris and Anna Benson are getting divorced? <

Betcha every guy in the Mets organization is gonna be interested in that development, though it's a shame. (Funny thing is, they were in a magazine article a month or so back, and she said they'd probably be divorced soon. Seemed like a joke at the time, but....)

Aaaaaaaaaaand she changed her mind:<
>
<
>
Quote:Two days before right-hander Kris Benson was scheduled to make his Orioles debut, his outspoken wife, Anna, withdrew her petition for divorce.<
>
<
>
Anna Benson, an actress and model who has posed topless, filed for divorce in Atlanta on March 31. The petition for divorce claimed the marriage was "irretrievably
oken."<
>
<
>
Anna Benson's attorney, Jeffrey B. Bogart, said the petition was withdrawn Tuesday. <
>
<
>
"Anna did a lot of soul searching over the weekend, and it is her desire to repair her marriage," Bogart told ESPN.com.<
>
<
>
The couple has been married for seven years and has two children. Anna Benson had sought full custody, along with child support and alimony.<
>
<
>
Impulsive behavior is nothing new for Anna Benson. In an interview with The Associated Press last week, before she filed for divorce, Kris Benson said he still thinks the New York Mets traded him to Baltimore because of his wife.<
>
<
>
"New York is just a world of its own. I knew that coming in, but you learn that a little more when you get put in the spotlight like that in a negative and undeserving way," Benson said.<
>
<
>
Anna Benson wore a provocative dress at the team Christmas party, and there was talk that she was considering posing nude for Playboy. She's also known for making frank comments about the couple's sex life.<
>
<
>
Kris said Anna never had a serious conversation with representatives from Playboy and that her attire at the party was "not as revealing as people say it is."<
>
<
>
She did pose provocatively for FHM magazine's April issue.<

The sex is probably incredible, but what's it like for him to be married to someone who's so, uh, flaky?
